Indigenous War Dances and Football

So, the Maori of New Zealand have a war dance they do called Haka, which is used to intimidate the opposing force. I have seen it in real life and it is extremely alarming!

Apparently, a Football  Rugby ("Soccer"  English Football to us USAian heathens!) team decided to do it prior to a match. I particularly love the baffled and startled looks on the opposing team's faces!

But then, New Zealand went up against Tonga. Tonga has it's own set of fierce warrior tribes who continue to have an active cultural life - and their own war dances.

I love it! Here to me is the beauty and benefit of globalization*. This is how strong cultures survive - they adapt from. Here the dance goes from war to sport.

Brilliant!

* There are many downsides - but it isn't all bad, and I think it's important to look at what's good and keep those parts, while fixing the bad ones.
