whatever works

This past weekend I cooked beef stroganoff with Faith. It's probably one of the biggest accomplishments of my whole summer. Actually reading through Foucault's Archeology is close, but not nearly as enjoyable (for obvious reasons). Pictures to come soon, I hope?

Other than that, I've been really fascinated by Peter Tscherkassky's films lately. They represent everything I love about avant-garde cinema, especially as a revival of the "flicker" tradition. Actually, I'd love to write an essay about the relation between Paul Sharits' films and Tscherkassky's, their continuity and their differences. This is what good self-reflexive art looks like, as opposed to the annoyingly obvious intrusions of a camera or filmstrip in a movie like Persona. Or maybe I just like fast cutting. And stroboscopic effects.

And I'm going back to Coney Island in a few days!
