I'd forgotten that having a paid account would give me more icon space.

Note to self: Sort through icons tonight and add more to LJ. Because yes.

Stayed up way late reading homoerotic ebooks. Was pleasantly surprised by "Brier's Bargain" (Bodyguards In Love #1) by Carol Lynne. The main character reminded me a bit of the one in Flowers for ( Read more... )

I haven't read any of her Cattle Valley series.

Checking which books of Lynne's I have read on Goodreads just now surprised me: I stopped reading her Refuge Shifters series because, as you said, "the potential of her stories" far exceeded "the execution." I was curious enough after the first book to read the second, but I had to give up when the writing didn't improve. If I hadn't checked, I'd not have thought that series and "Brier's Bargain" were by the same author.

In conclusion: Do try out "Brier's Bargain", if only for the main character's voice. It's an unusual one, and a brave choice to carry a novella. I think it works, though, which is impressive.

Refuge Shifters! Tell me you got to the magic healing come bath part, at least. ^____^

I've read every CV book, except one, I think. I just noticed I have one on my wishlist that looks totally unfamiliar. Not sure how that happened.

I do not disagree with a single word Meg says about them, but they are still one of my favorite pixie stix reads.

Bodyguards lost me after the first couple. *shrugs* Same with the college athletics or coach series. Some of those are probably fun, but... only so much time and money can go towards candy, after all.

I HAD PURGED THAT FROM MY BRAIN OMG WHY?!?!?! ;____;

How are the CV books? As I said, I haven't read them. But then, I'm a bigger fan of paranormal romance and urban fantasy than straight (ha!) Westerns. Give me a Western with magic, however... Or Jonah Hex, because damn... Or some of the classic films... [/stopping]

I want to read at least a few more of the Bodyguards ones--mostly so I'm filled in enough for #6 (I think?), which many of my M/M Romance GoodReads friends liked. I do hope her writing in the rest is better than in the Refuge Shifters though. *sigh* Such wasted potential in that series.

"Pixie Stick" reads though--good way of putting a lot of the homoerotic ebooks I've read thus far. (Hence my abiding love for LT3 and its authors, but I suppose not every publisher can value story and character over sex scene content. *sigh*)

CV... I just really love the set up she has. The land the town is on is owned by some rich guy whose son was gay, and he created it as a haven for gay people. So it is a regular western ranching town, but almost everyone who lives there is gay. And I love meeting new people, and knowing that we'll get to see their story, eventually, and then getting to see old friends from past books interact in the future. And new people are SO accepted and embraced. They always find them a place to live and a job (and eventually a lover, too!). It is just such a neat place. I want to live there ( ... )

I remember an online fanfic author wrote an original set of stories about a gay resort. The premise of CV reminds me a bit of that. I always wanted to go there--it was such an accepting place!

Note to self: Character death in GTB series, do not read. >_<

I'll stick the first CV book on my to-read list then. Nothing wrong with fun, trashy novels. ^_^

I really liked the one that came right after Brier's. Um, Seb's Surrender I think/ I don't know. Self proclaimed hc junkie here, and that gave me my fix. I did like Brier's though, and I liked that it was a unique premise.

I liked "Seb's Surrender" too, though for different reasons than Brier's--which, you're totally right, had a unique premise. (And done well, too.) I was definitely more comfortable / less squicked by the narrators in "Seb's" though. ^__^

I love that in the Bodyguard books thus far, the seeds for the next book are planted in the previous. I knew Seb had a thing for Jared the moment they met, in "Brier's Bargain"; and Seb was dealing peripherally with Archer's assignment for "I Love Rock N Roll" (I keep wanting to write "Rick...roll") in "Seb's Surrender." So yes--such linking makes me happy.

H/C junkie, eh? I might be borderline, though I need my HEA for any story to be truly wonderful for me. (Oh, Disney, you have RUINED me for Literary Fiction and The Academy! ...Thank goodness. :P) Any favorites to recommend? I hate having my heart broken, but "a little peril breakage" is okay. ^_~
