Read this, then the following. You might want to wait to read this until I post my previous post that's in my laptop at home whilst I'm at work. Or not, you pick. But you might be just a tad confused.
I've done a theme post before as a journalist. And since my addiction to NewsRadio has blossomed, let me pointform/headline a few things.
NEWSRADIO ADDICTION FLOURISHES WHILE DOGSITTING, Sleep Abandoned In Favour of Widescreen
SEVERE CRUSH ON DAVE FOLEY RENDERS NEWSRADIO FAN SPEECHLESS
BUS STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY
Gee, did I get your attention?
Okay, first things first. Did I mention I LOVE NewsRadio? To the point of severe, unconquerable obsession? I'm talking sleep deprivation and other extreme measures. This weekend and last week in all, I have to have spent a good two solid 24-hour days watching NewsRadio. And I have two and a half DVD's full left. That's about 40 episodes. The next time I do a marathon I'll do it with a TV and my laptop on my lap, snitching quotes. The scary thing is I'm starting to adopt some of the mannerisms of the characters. They're like my best friends. Oh. Boy.
Now I will sicken you all by putting on my pseudo-Trekkie persona to list my 6 current favourite episodes. I know, I know. This is hideously bad. Please, be my guest and skip to the next section. Unless you're a fellow NewsRadio fan. *ahem* Shameless slobbering over episodes follows...
(2) Innapropriate: Dave and Lisa start their fling. Awesome first kiss of the series. Fav line: WRONG. (Context would give away the whole plot.) Other favourite line: "What's he going to sue us for, defamation of character?" about the mispronunciation of Joey Buttafuco's name.
(12) The Shrink: Not perhaps a favourite episode, but a favourite quote. "I'm from Wisconsin, is that the same as 'getting a lot'?" Oh. Yeah. So funny.
(28) Led Zepplin II: This can be summed up in a few quotes. "Lisa, the building's on fire." "Right." "No, really, Lisa, our building? It's ON FIRE." "No it's... woah. What do we do?" And did I mention the awesome Dave and Lisa get back together scene? So. Funny.
(32) Arcade: Stargate Defender =D an episode about obsessions. How ironic.
Beth: Wait a minute... were you one of those guys in high school who spent half his time at the arcade, hunched over the machines with all the other pale, friendless virgins?
[Very Long pause]
Dave: ...Don't be silly.
(35) Daydream: Incredibly funny. The whole epsiode is one big long quote, so I won't limit myself by putting down just one or two. Except perhaps for the recurring line, "Oh Bill, my entire life has been but a prelude to this moment!!"
(49) Sleeping: So funny. Jimmy is unconscious and Dave starts to hold a two-sided conversation with himself. "Lisa has decided that she wants to have a baby but that she doesn't want to get married. Now I know that if you were awake you'd probably say something like, "Well son, why milk the cow when you've got a fridge full of steaks." And I would probably say, "That makes absolutely no sense, sir." And then I'm sure you would say... "Well it sure sounded like it made sense when that guy Chuck Connors said it in that movie China Town." And I of course would say, "Well sir, Chuck Connors wasn't in the movie China Town." And I'm sure you would come back with, "Well Dave, if I wanted to have this conversation I'd have hired that guy Siskel Ebert to do your job." And I would say, "Sir, Siskel and Ebert are two guys." And I'm sure you would then come back with, "Dave just 'cause the man is fat is no reason to make fun of him."
Second thing. Dave Nelson/Foley is incredibly attractive. For a few reasons, one he's really, really cute. Two, he's got good screen chemistry with Lisa (Maura Tierney) and three, he's an infallible, wacked out witty geek who knows tons of useless information. And Dave Foley the human being's favourite comedy show is M*A*S*H. Woah, dude. Did I mention he's Canadian? 'Nuff said.
Oh, and about that bus. I guess the headline says it all. They sent another bus for us. But it was an interesting place to be stalled. And I've never sat in a bus with the engine off before this, I don't think.
