"Click to donate" charities!

Feb 14, 2010 21:47

Have you ever heard of the Animal Rescue Site? How about the Breast Cancer Site? These are two of several great "click to donate" charities whose premise is simple: visit the websites once a day, click the "donate" button, and with that simple act, you have helped to support and donate to these great causes. There's nothing to download, no advertising sites to wade through, and it's free to do. It's been around for years. Check it out on the ultimate debunker site, Snopes!

Instead of having to bookmark each site and remember to visit every day, an html code block was created to embed links to all six charities, say, into your website or blog. You may well have seen it here on LiveJournal already. Unfortunately that code hasn't been in working order for the last several years. Until now.

Here's the explanation: In 2004, evilfuzzymonste whipped up some html to put all of these great charity links into one convenient block. A few years later, the image source for the code went kaput. At some point in time she moved the code to a new LJ account, but as of February 2010 that account has been deleted, and she doesn't appear to be around online anymore.

I've seen this code all over LiveJournal (indeed, it's so popular it's migrated to other blogging sites!), but with the image links broken, it's much harder to use. I thought this was an awesome cause and evilfuzzymonste had such a great idea, that it would be such a shame to see it not go on. So I have fixed the code to make it usable once more. I am in no way trying to take credit for evilfuzzymonste's idea or html coding, I'm just here to get it rolling again! So, please spread this around, and link back to this post so others can come get the new, working code! It's free to do, and so easy to help these wonderful charities!

This is what it will look like on your page (scroll down to get the code!):

Save The World - One Click At A Time!

On each of these websites, you can click a button to support the cause -- each click creates funding, and costs you nothing! Bookmark these sites, and click once a day!

Right now the images are in my Photobucket account, but if this circulates enough and bandwidth overload starts, I'll ask people to please save the images to their own hosts (which you can do right now anyway, of course!). Fixing and rerouting the link paths to users' own images shouldn't be difficult, but I'll be happy to assist if needs be. :)

internet, links, html, good things
