Dinner [locked to beck__]

Jun 06, 2005 17:57

It had been some day at work. Her latest piece had to be rewritten, because as Sam had put it, "it just wasn't her best work." And so, she had spent the majority of the afternoon doing that. Stopping by the store on the way home, she picked up what she needed for dinner, and headed straight to the house ( Read more... )

Since the daughters of his landlord had stopped going to school because, for them, summer had started, he had hired him as a guitar instructor for a few hours in the morning. It was extra money, doing something he didn't mind doing, and with kids that, although he pretended with them as if they annoyed him, he actually liked.

After that he had gotten ready, choosing something completely casual. Jeans, a casual button-up shirt that had short sleeves, and his black boots. Of course, since he was so picky about his shaving habits, he had shaved and his hair was trimmed. Maybe he was a bit of a perfectionist in that sense, but he wanted to look good for her. Before arriving at her place he had decided to pick up something on the way for her, to surprise her again.

While he waited for her to open the door, he had been looking down at the flowers he was holding, making sure that they looked ok. At her voice, saying it was open, he chuckled under his breath and walked inside as he looked for her.

"I hope you don't always do that - what if it wasn't me at the door?" He couldn't help but grin as he said that, his tone playful.

"Well, then that someone would be getting his or her ass kicked right about now," she smiled, as she paused to look up from her place by the table. Finishing the task she'd started, she set a fork next to each plate, on top of the napkin. Realizing she forgot glasses, she walked over to the cabinet beside the refrigerator, and grabbed two glasses. She placed them in front of each place setting, and smiled - proud of her work. This was the first time that she'd actually set the table in quite somet ime.

She smiled as she walked over to him, her barefeet making virtually no noise against the hardwood floor. "Hi," she smiled. Noticing the flowers, she shook her head with a smile on her face. "Smart man," she said with a wink.

He laughed lightly at her response and closed the door as she set the table. He had been about to go help her finish, but she finished before he could offer, so he watched her, his smile never leaving his face.

"Hey," he replied, his smile still on his face. At what she said about the flowers, he chuckled. "I thought you might like them." Before saying anything else, though, he wasted no time and kissed her when she got to him; having missed the taste of her lips. He had missed her...

She kissed him back, her arms finding their way around his neck. After a moment or two, she pulled back with a smile on her face. "I missed you, and I would love to pick this up later - because otherwise, we're going to have a very burnt pan of macaroni and cheese, and a crispy cake."

She kissed his cheek, before going and taking the food out of the oven, and setting it on two trivets on the counter. "Look around if you want, I'm going to finish this up, okay?"

"Ah, excuses, excuses," he said with a playful smirk after she kissed her cheek. "It's fine, you know; I don't mind burnt food."

He walked over to the table and smiled slightly wider as he saw the food. He could have looked around but he felt as if he was...intruding. "Nah, I can look around later when you give me the tour. Do you need help in anything...?" He looked around for something that maybe he could help her in.

She had grabbed the croutons out of the pantry, with a smile on her face - that comment of his, she shook her head; setting the box on the counter, she closed the pantry door, and got a bowl out of the bottom cabinet right next to it. Setting the bowl on the counter, she glanced over at him, and smiled.

"There's a bottle of wine in the refrigerator that you can open," she said. "And the salad is in the bottom drawer too, if you'd like to hand that to me."

Setting down the flowers on the table, he walked over to the refridgerator and took out the bottle of wine and the salad. This was different to him - sharing the kitchen with someone. It was usually him cooking, and not exactly for two people. But this was different; the good type of different.

Walking over to her, he handed her the salad. Before he went over to the table to set the bottle of wine down, he kissed her cheek and smiled. "So," he started saying as he took the bottle to the table. "How was your day today...?"

She took the salad from him, and poured it into the bowl on the counter. If she had thought about it, she would've gotten everything seperately and tossed it herself, but her mind was preoccupied while she was out shopping, so this would have to do. Setting the package aside, she picked out a piece of the white lettuce, her favorite, and ate it.

"It was good, I was busy rewriting my latest piece all day, but I can't complain too much," she smiled. She picked up the bowl, and the croutons, and moved to set them on the table. "How about yours?" She asked, as she grabbed the salad dressing out of the refrigerator. Setting it next to the croutons on the table, she leaned back against the refrigerator door, and watched him open the wine with a smile on her face.

He had been watching her prepare the salad before opening the wine, now not noticing that she was watching him. "Mine? Oh, not as exciting as yours, probably." He chuckled as he turned to her, the bottle now open. "My landlord decided to have me teach two of his daughters how to play guitar." He shrugged absently, walking over to her. "I figured it'd be fun, and they're not too bad." He chuckled slightly before kissing her forehead softly. "Four daughters and he doesn't know what to do with them."

"Send them to an all girl's school before some boy comes along and steals their heart," she said.

She took his hand, and smiled. "I'm glad you're here."

He laughed at her response and shook his head. Hey, sounded like something he'd probably do - eventually.

Giving her hand a gentle squeeze, he smiled back at her. "I'm glad I'm here too. Thank you for the invite, you really didn't have to do this."

"How often do I get the chance to show off my culinary skills?" She laughed, for she had no culinary skills - as proven by tonight's menu. She took the bottle of wine from his hand, and set it on the table. "You up for the grand tour?"

He laughed lightly and grinned. "Sure. From what I've seen, even if it's just the kitchen, you have a very nice place."

"Thank you," she grinned. She loved her place. It was just the right size, perfect for her right now.. or even later on. Not a shabby neighborhood, either. But, it felt like home and that was the most important thing about it.

She took his hand again, and led him from the kitchen into the living room. "This is the living room, nothing too exciting about it. On the top of the piano, there are a bunch of pictures, from everything. From Berlin, from Paris, from college.. you name it, it's probably over there. Go look if you want, just promise not to laugh - some of them are just badly shot."

As she led him into the living room he looked around, not to the point of being nosy, but just seeing where she lived. At the mention of the pictures he grinned before starting to walk over to the piano, not letting go of her hand. He looked at them, smiling.

After a moment, he turned to her. "Which one's your favorite?"

She took a step forward at his words, and picked it up. It was an old black and white photo of her parents, the only one she had. "This one, it's the only picture I have of my parents. They took this little cruise for their honeymoon, and someone snapped this shot of them," she smiled as she looked at the picture. "It reminds me of the times that they were happy together, even if those were few and far between. I look at this, and I can forget, if only for a moment, how things fell apart between them."

Yes, Carrie & Big. Chris Noth & Sarah Jessica Parker. *shakes head* The only cutesy-ish picture I could find that I liked.
