I actually have made a few posts in the last few days, but they've been very hit or miss. But at the moment, I feel like writing. Which is sort of a surprise, since I've been up since 8am. But since I did the 6pm, I'm not "written out" like I sometimes am on days when I do other shows. So here's the last week, in the large-nutshell version.
Monday: I went into work at 2:30ish, for my normal shift. I was more or less designated to work on my upcoming special, rather than write for the newscasts. Thankfully, I was able to get a lot of work done for the special. Unfortunately, there were some things I couldn't get to, like getting the graphics requests approved by my boss so I could turn them in. That's when I realized I'd need to go in Tuesday or Wednesday (my scheduled days off) to get that done. There was nothing really stopping me from waiting until Monday to do it (when the person making the graphics would be in next), but I really didn't want to wait that long. So at that point, I realized I wouldn't be able to go down to Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday & Wednesday to visit the vacationing
corks1181. That was a bit of a downer, because I wanted to see her, and get out of town for a bit.
Tuesday: I woke up late, I don't remember how late it was. I thought about going into work, but decided I'd leave that for Wednesday, for a variety of reasons. I don't think I did very much Tuesday afternoon. Around 4 I decided I would be able to head down to Gainesville for
thisgirliknow's birthday dinner/party. I left around 5 -- bad idea. My "best" route down there, is just a nightmare during rush hour. Not that the route I wound up taking was a piece of cake, but it was better. Between traffic and everything, I still made it to Olive Garden by 7:15. Some familiar faces, and some new ones too (hi
retromorphosis! and I may add more soon...). Had a good time at dinner and afterwards... it was a fun evening. I got back home around 2 AM.
Wednesday: Finally made it into work around 1:30. I took care of a few emails while I waited for my news director to get out of the afternoon meeting. Went over my plans for graphics with her, she seemed to like all of my ideas, so I headed down to the art department to turn it all in. I made it out of there alive (ha), always a good thing when turning in a massive graphics package 10 days before it's needed. Around 4:30 I hit Publix. Not for Thanksgiving shopping, but for general shopping, because I was running out of food. It was busy, but not completely mobbed. Came home, ate dinner, watched West Wing... didn't do much else.
Didn't have much luck getting to sleep at a decent hour.
Thursday: The alarm went off at 7:45, finally got out of bed at 8:15. Oops. Got to work around 9:15. Thanksgiving Day isn't exactly the most exciting day in the news business. It's pretty much the same stories year after year. Nevertheless, we had a few other stories, so it wasn't too bad. Slow day at work gave me a chance to do plenty of eating, and watching of football. After work, I went over to my aunt's house, where my family already had been for several hours, and ate some of what was left of dinner (which was plenty). I actually didn't have any pie, because I had already had several pieces of pie (and of a giant cookie) at work. Came home, watched most of the Apprentice, tried to go to sleep.
Friday: Same wake-up routine. Oops again. Another slow day at work. Same shopping stories as every year. Produced the 6, then went to a hockey game. We lost, but it was still a pretty good time. Ran into one of the directors from work, sitting a section over from me. 8 rows up from the glass, 14 bucks. Not a bad deal. Grabbed some Starbucks, came home.
Other random notes of the week:
- I was very tempted to get a 160 GB hard drive at Best Buy. $29.99 after rebates, I think it's a special that lasted beyond noon. For right now, I'm staying away from it, because I just got an 80 GB drive a few weeks ago for the same price after rebates. I could replace my primary 40 gig drive with the 160, but that gets into ghosting and other work I don't feel like doing right now. And besides, I think I'll be much better served if I just get a DVD burner...
- I really need to call Bellsouth. My DSL has been getting sluggish recently.
- I may buy more RAM for my computer (that's what it really needs...). But I should hold off for now...
- Next week could be interesting. Details to follow.
