st_aurafina, three cheers for putting together such an excellent, excellent
friending meme! Hello, new people, and apologies that my first visible entry for you is about food poisoning. (Update: I think it was string beans, of all things. Go figure.) My comment on the meme lives
here, and I realized there were all kinds of things I forgot to include, like how desperately I love Peggy Carter and and how much I miss collaborative storytelling and how very, very much I care about unfucking journalism. (I am a freelance journalist and writer living in Brooklyn; I know -- I'm Jewish too!)
A few links, because I always love sharing links: I have just been introduced to
storyhospital, an A++ blog about writing that actually addresses some of the close psychological and process-related questions I can never seem to get satisfactory answers for anywhere else. A couple of good posts I really found meaningful/helpful/enjoyable:
#14: Where Do Characters Come From?
#13: Should I Just Give Up on Writing?
#8: You Are Not Your Work
This is in roiling contrast to Heather "Ask Polly" Havrilesky, who has thrown me into a fury with her latest column.
myrioddity has the best answer on this for me, I think: "...I feel like Polly is a good writer capable of giving advice to her past self, and nobody else." Angry enough about it all that I might write it up for
screwballheroine and my first #52essays2017!
So, right, yes, hello, everyone. <3
