There's links in them thar hills!

After keeping it in my tabs since it went live, I finally read Questions are the new comments, a Medium piece by the creator of WBEZ's Curious City (which I guessed not too far into the piece - legit one of the coolest things Chicago Public Media does!). It got me all excited about writing and reporting again, a thing I dearly want to do but am having trouble grabbing a toehold on again. (The Atlantic culture section's call for pitches is another great jumping-off point. Same for Atlas Obscura.) (Relatedly: Bad comments are a system failure.)

Anyway, I keep trying to think of uses for
magpieandwhale, and it could be really fun to do some more crowd-sourcing, whether for essays (which has worked well before) or reporting. (If you have any thoughts about stuff you'd like to see me essay or report on, let me know!)

Other journalism/arts stuff: This lady is one of my best friends at work, and she's one of the funniest, greatest, most humane, most fun people I've maybe ever met? She just had this incredible run of her one-woman show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival about going on the one possible lesbian Tinder date in Pakistan, and this interview in Paper is so good and so cool. You should read it!

This is a tutorial about adding linked footnotes to AO3 stories, though it's just basic HTML that should work for everyone, hurrah! This is a tutorial about crossposting between Tumblr and DW/LJ.

I have had these links in my tabs since... last May, at least, and I should just act on them and/or share them. Has anyone ever listened to Banks? She's kind of Lana Del Rey-esque. I am dearly in need of new music, but I don't want to feed the demon iTunes or the demon Amazon, which puts me in a bind for acquiring new music when I don't have an optical drive to burn CDs anymore. (Yes, I know about the peripherals. Yes, I know that's an Amazon link. I choose my battles.) Also,
BakuForestStudios is great. I need to not get sucked back into permanent Etsy-lust, but it's hard not to browse and... get sucked in.

No one but me cares about this, but I moved my turquoise bookcase out of my living room and into my bedroom, and it's both opened up so much space while also using a little alcove in my bedroom so much better and given me the impetus to start some KonMari-style decluttering, now that all that stuff can no longer lurk around the bookcase. (Also, turns out Jezebel wrote a pretty good rebuttal to the KonMari rebuttals?) It's a three-day holiday weekend, and I plan on getting out and doing more stuff than that, but on some level, being able to finally just get my shit under control and in order is really, really appealing.
