Yuletide Letter: Sebastian Stan and five-minute fandoms within!

Oct 20, 2014 15:56

Writer! Hello! Ohmygosh, I already think the world of you - hi! Thanks so much for offering to write for one of these fandoms (or for finding a fandom you didn't know you wanted to write for, since three of them are conveniently available on YouTube in their entirety). My 2012 letter has a lot of good bullet points about things I love, but in general, I trust you and am so excited to see what you'll come up with.

One note: I'm not against romantic relationships or smut, far from it -- but I need for there to be at least one lady involved; dudeslash is just not what I'm here for. That said, I love intense relationships and friendships, platonic and/or romantic and/or sexual, so -- people with really strong feelings about each other, and who act on them in various ways, yes please.

Character-driven writing is totally my jam, but I'm also all for stories that play with form, structure, language and atmosphere, if that is also your jam. Magical realism is always cool. Humor is great! I like people having fun together, even if (particularly if) things are really dire. Most of all, I want you to have fun, Mystery Writer. That's the special sauce in every fandom exchange. ♥

Fel Del Av Gården - Movits! (Music Video) (Lyrics in English, though I don't know they're really necessary for the story of the video -- do what you will!)
The world of this music video makes me so giddy. It's so energetic and free and graceful and joyous. I'd be thrilled to see however you interpret the video, in both plot and character. My only firm hope is that in this world, swing dancers really do take to the streets whenever and wherever they want, for their own ineffable reasons.

Gun Street Girl (song) - Tom Waits
This is a song that I love for the atmosphere. To be perfectly honest, I'm only partly sure of the song's plot, but I'm so taken with the timeless, rough-and-tumble, whisky-and-cigarettes-voiced Americana of it. "Left Waukegan at the slamming of the door" is a line that haunts me in particular. If you want to explore the world and/or the characters, or build a plot, or turn it into magical realism, or go meta about the storyteller, or the Midwest in general, or a certain time period, I'm thrilled. I would love to see something that *feels* like this song does.

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
There are so many ways this prompt could go, and I will be thrilled with any of them. What does Blaine do the rest of the year? Why is he so possessive of the slope? What's the future, either future, look like for him? (What would happen if he was granted access to the hot tub... and the future?) Does he grow up hot, or does he never quite make it out of the '80s? Why is he such a patriot, and does he ever change his mind? Do his feelings on snowboarding ever evolve? (If Yuletide lets us, is he actually the Winter Soldier on his most bizarre undercover op yet?)

I just love Sebastian Stan actually getting to do comedy. Please take this anywhere you want.

Red Doors (2005)
I actually dearly love everybody in this movie (watch it on YouTube), and if Katie and Simon's epic prank-fueled romance doesn't move you, I will be super, super happy with anything else you come up with. That said... I really love the silent comedy of their prank war love story. A look at how that relationship comes together and grows, in whatever direction, would be funny and touching and great, I think. How does that summer go? What happens when they both go off to college? How does their prank war change as their relationship changes? (As a youngest with much older siblings, I totally sympathize with Katie, and love how she both does her own thing and actually winds up being the true believer in love. Also, as previously mentioned, Sebastian Stan doing comedy is great.)
