Hello, Chicagoland.

You ever have those mornings where you wake up completely dehydrated? Yeah, that's fun. Once you've undehydrated a little, you might then find a Special Weather Statement for your region that reads a little something like this:HOT AND HUMID WEATHER WILL CONTINUE OVER THE MIDWEST THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE WORK WEEK... THANKS TO A PERSISTENT AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE STALLED ACROSS THE REGION. HIGHS WILL BE IN THE LOW TO MID 90S TODAY AND THURSDAY... WITH AFTERNOON HEAT INDEX VALUES NEAR 100 DEGREES. A WEAK AFTERNOON LAKE BREEZE MAY KEEP AREAS ALONG THE SHORE A LITTLE COOLER TODAY... LIMITING HIGHS THERE TO THE UPPER 80S AND A HEAT INDEX AROUND 95. NO LAKE COOLING IS EXPECTED THURSDAY OR FRIDAY HOWEVER... WITH AFTERNOON HIGHS EXPECTED TO REACH THE MID 90S IN MANY SPOTS AROUND CHICAGO AND HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 100 AND 105 DEGREES. TEMPERATURES IN THE CITY WILL LIKELY REMAIN IN THE 80S MUCH OF TONIGHT AND THURSDAY NIGHT... PROVIDING LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT. RELIEF WILL ARRIVE LATE FRIDAY HOWEVER... AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE NORTHWEST BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO PARTS OF THE AREA... FOLLOWED BY COOLER AND LESS HUMID WEATHER OVER THE WEEKEND.
I have no A/C and I prefer it that way (I hate hate hate window units and the smell of coolant and the noise and the way you can't get fresh air and the trouble of installing and uninstalling), but I guess we've hit the part of my beloved summer season where my hatred of window units in my own space becomes a public health issue. /o\ (Seriously, all I want in my next apartment, wherever that will be, is an in-unit washer/dryer, central heat [which is awesome!] and central air [which, I still have no idea why this place has central heat and not central air].)

I have way, way too many tabs open. Hang on.
  • Life Along China's Yellow River: Surreal photos, really interesting human and natural landscapes
  • I guess Dorothy Perkins is a thing? A think for people who like to shop for dresses and things for cheap?
  • Zealot: The Real Jesus sounds interesting. I have no idea how to evaluate the scholarship, but I have so little actual knowledge of any kind of Christianity and early Christian history that anything sounds intriguing to me.
  • New Mazzy Star album, first in 17 years!
  • Free: The Future of a Radical Price is available as a free audiobook download, but it would kind of like it if you'd tip $6.
  • Mango lassi is better on a stick. I could go for some of that right now.
  • ...well, okay, the rest are Tumblr links for ye olde queue or OK Cupid profiles or something. (Some of them are ayyur's The Hour icons, of which I need infinitely more. And also
thatyourefuse's Suburban Shootout tag, because holy cats is that show great and full of great people.)

--wait, I just remembered I have popsicles in my freezer! Oh boy, good morning, the Midwest.
