HEALTH

Sorry about the lateness of this post. I wanted to post yesterday, but LJ wouldn't let me... hmm... Anyway, here is your weekly new music review, from a band that I have listened to for only a few months, but enjoy nonetheless.

Today's entry is Got Color by HEALTH

An LA Band. When you think of SoCal sound, you think of easy, breezy, chill music. Nothing too aggressive, just relaxed. Part of that California philosophy of life is to just enjoy the weather, be one with the atmosphere and take everything at a slow pace. What's the rush? But than you have bands such as The Germs or X that do everything but slow down, making a raceous wherever they go. In so many ways, HEALTH's first album was the sort of shock that got us going back in 2007. They were rambucious, noisy, breaking things, and making sure they were heard. It was new blood in a town that seemed to lose its edge. Ergo, Got Color delved into more experimental territory, with collaborations with a number of musicians that seemed to elaborate from the debut. All things considered, they were able to go further, without going too far.

My favorite song has to be Nice Girls, due in part with is lo-fi sound. I miss that sound, reminding me of earlier Modest Mouse and Pavement, HEALTH's ability to clash the genres, giving us both electronic with lo-fi is something that makes this album one worthy of a listen.

Choice Tracks: Nice Girls, Die Slow, and In Violet
