Friday's Favorites: Funeral

Hey everybody!

Today is Friday's Favorites. I did a Michael Jackson dedication earlier if you would like to check that out, but I don't lke to dwell on something for too long, so moving on. My album of choice is Arcade Fire's Funeral.

It's not so much that this album is one of my all-time favorites, but it was the single most intense concert I had every attended. I saw them live for the second time in May of 2007 and literally had never felt so intuned with the audience and the band with any of performance. I cried, laughed, danced, jumped around. It was the closet thing to a religious experience I've ever had. And it only gravitated me more to this album. It was their debut album, something so organic and fresh, giving the world this baroque rock sound, delivering intricate melodies and ironic lyrics. It was so different from other music I had been listening to around that time, giving me a taste of old school David Bowie with a new twist resonate of Neutral Milk Hotel and Pavement.

My favorite song on this album is Wake Up. It was once my alarm clock ringtone. It just got me up, ready to face the day. While the subjuct matter is about death, it seems to bring the opposite reaction within me. To take the moments in your life and be grateful for them. There are so many wonderful songs on this album, it's hard to choose which one is better than the rest, but that song is my personal favorite. And I am more than excited to hear their new album, which will hopefully come out sometime next year.

Choice Tracks: Wake Up, Rebellion (Lies), and Haiti
