Hey folks!
Today's Spotlight Artist of the Week is about a band I rediscovered just last night. I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, All Songs Considered from NPR Music and they mentioned them as they were discussing bands that you love that hardly anyone knows. I had read about them in my local newspaper and got a few of their songs online. But after a few weeks, they went back in the abyss of fleeting songs I listen to. After hearing their music again, I knew I had to feature them.
I give you, The Donkeys
Imagine being on a beach, a gentle breeze blowing through your hair and you can hear children laughing down by the surf. the sun is beaming down on your shoulders and the sun is just setting. Sounds idyllic, right? When I played Living On the Other Side, I was transferred to that scene, wishing I could stay there forever. With influences reverent of Pavement and Grateful Dead, The Donkeys provide gentle harmornies without being too harmonious.
The pace of this album is easy going, as relaxed as the songs themselves. You don't seem force-feed by the atmosphere they're trying to create, but simply eased into it naturally. One of the best songs on the album is Traverse Wine, which steers away from the beach-friendly music. But my favorite has to be Nice Train, which is their most pop-sounding song, providing some psychedelic beats and a catchy chorus.
I think people could get behind this band, especially since it's the perfect season to listen to this type of music. If you like Fleet Foxes, The Eagles or Jack Johnson, this is a great band for you.
Choice Tracks: Dreamin', Nice Train, and Traverse Wine
If you have any bands you like to discuss, please post about them! See you tomorrow for Throwback Thursday!!!
