Brian couldn't sleep. He hadn't been able to sleep since the creature attack. Every time he closed his eyes he saw one of them coming at him. When he did manage to fall asleep, there were nightmares about the things attacking his various family members. He couldn't deal with it. The scratches weren't healing as quickly as Kayla said they would and they still looked a little infected. When he showered they got better but as soon as he was good and dry, they were red and puffy again. Kayla needed to hurry back so she could check them out.
The worst, though, was when he found himself physically unable to go outside. He'd left all his stuff out there and he needed to get it but he just couldn't make his hand turn the knob. He couldn't make his arm open the door. There were very few things in life that paralyzed Brian with fear. He just couldn't get the images of the attack out of his head, though. And he could still hear them. It was like they were talking directly to him, but he couldn't understand what they were saying. The only time he ever understood them was in the dream when he clearly heard "you're one of us now". A shiver ran down his spine every time he thought about it.
Noah had been kind enough to go get him several days worth of clothes. He seemed to understand Brian's fear. Brian smiled every time Noah helped him. He wondered how Jason would react to the fact that Brian and Noah had been technically alone together for so long. That was a reunion he was actually looking forward too.
Henry had been a different story. Henry took every chance he got to effectively call Brian a wuss. He even almost forced him out the door once, stopping only when Noah said something to him. Henry was nothing short of an asshole and Brian was starting to hate him more and more. He wondered how Henry's son felt about the man. He's too much like Jack for my liking Brian thought. He just needed some time. He'd get over his fear eventually. He had to.
Since he couldn't sleep, but it seemed everyone else could, Brian decided to start making breakfast. Even though it was practically lunch time. He started with eggs and some spam he found in the cabinets. It wasn't bacon, but it was better than nothing. Then Brian went rummaging and actually found what was needed for some make shift pancakes. It was cornmeal instead of flower, but it'd work. He hadn't been able to find any coffee, though.
