room 316 - friday evening - 10/2

Oct 02, 2009 20:15

Tonight was a night for the stupidest of things. It was for being reckless and uncaring, for doing things that might bodily harm him. It was a night for drinking, or worse. Perhaps even illicit drunken glitter-less boykissing. It was a night to bury the pain in foolishness, alienate all who knew and loved him, and make his mother even more ( Read more... )

[Because the mun couldn't resist a post like this, no...]

"Liir?" Ino carolled. "You alive?"

Her mood, at least, was pretty fantastic so far.

"YES!" came the snap from inside, accompanied by a very sad dog noise and burrowing at the door.

...

"Makejoy, honey," Ino said, choosing to ignore the snap temporarily. "Can you move away from the door? Auntie needs to get it open."

And if it was locked, she'd kick it down. Ino was pretty simple that way.

"You know," she continued, "considering that your daddy is in a bad mood and that's bad for you, sweetie."

She did not particularly expect Makejoy to understand all of that, hence her next step being to try to open the door carefully so she didn't shove Makejoy.

It was unlocked. And Makejoy was a very smart dog and thus was well clear of the door when it opened.

Liir, meanwhile, was making tea as if he was currently in a prison camp and planning escape by poisoning the guards.

Ino shut the door behind her very precisely and walked over so that she was right in front of Liir.

"Hello, brother-mine," Ino said pleasantly. "Would you like to try that again?"

Because that didn't sound ominous at all, no.

Liir continued his torturous tea production. Every muscle was tight, every angle seemed sharper on him.

"Yes," he answered cooly, "I'm alive. And my mood has nothing to do with you. I'm just--"

He swallowed.

"I probably shouldn't be around anyone right now. You're welcome to take Makejoy for the evening, if you'd like. I certainly wouldn't ever harm her, but she seems unhappy."

She reached to place her hand on his head.

"She's unhappy 'cause you're unhappy, you dumbass." The insult, though, was said almost gently. "I'll take her when I go if it'll make you feel better, though."

Ino's other hand moved to try and halt the tea production. "What's got you riled up?"

He twitched, violent only in the extremity of his reaction as he dropped his spoon and put everything down.

"Imagine the thing most likely to upset me in all of the world and then have it walk into the book shop today and demand to know why I've absconded her from Oz to this strange place. Here's a hint: she's green and she's dead." he answered in a great shaking rush.

"And so, when the weekend is over, she'll go away and you'll not have to see her again," Ino said, raising her eyebrows at him.

"After all: she's dead in your world. Don't let a ghost fuck you over."

He closed his eyes and the energy drained from him, nervous and otherwise. He felt terribly tired.

Maybe some part of him had wished that she'd have a solution, or perhaps that she'd yell at him. For once in his entire time here, he might have liked a good fighting screaming row.

No, it wasn't that simple. It couldn't ever be that simple.

"It doesn't work like that, Ino," he said with a shake of his head.

"You don't understand."

"I don't?"

He could, of course, just goad her into a screaming fight. That could work.

"Any more insights you'd like to share?"

He looked over at her, swallowed, and closed his eyes for a moment. Then he nodded.

"No, I don't think you do. And I don't think you will no matter what I say."

"Mmmm," she said, unimpressed.

"So you thought you'd just come and hide out and be pissy rather than anything else?"

"I thought I'd go out and do something reckless and stupid and possibly get myself grievously injured, but my dog took exception to it and wouldn't let me out of the room," he said with a snort.

"So tea it is."

"What a fantastic idea," she said, wide-eyed and radiating innocence to a truly obnoxious degree. "Why, getting yourself hurt because someone else is around seems like an awesome way to punish those who care 'bout you."

"Oh, that was indeed part of the plan," he continued, sarcasm thick in his own tone as he reached around her to put the cream in a container.

"And stop that or go. Be angry if you're going to be angry, but this simpering innocent sweet-talk isn't helping."
