Because at the end of the day, fandom is funny. Here are some unorthodox expressions of Final Fantasy fandom, one for VII and the other for the original game.
Well, turns out that you can! Programmer Sailor Solathei has created a Caith Sith "brain" for the AI program MegaHAL. Here is how it works -
If you have Linux, the instructions are as such - "If you have Debian Linux installed, you probably have MegaHAL already. Try typing "megahal" into a shell window. If it turns out you don't have it installed, you may use apt to download and install the package: apt-get install megahal."
For those of on other OS's you'll need to head over to the
"Old" Download page. For Windows, I've gotten the Windows 95 edition to run on my 2K machine so I would suggest that one. For others... ah... use your best judgement. ^^; But while you're there, obviously, DL the "caitsith.zip" and you'll unzip that and put the folder in the same one as the final MegaHAL folder.
Once you open MegaHAL, you will type "#brain caitsith" into the "chat" line. And this will switch the program to have an FF7 inclination.
First thing is first - Caith Sith (as I'll now refer to the program) is rather random. He knows various names and terms, but he doesn't always know which two go together. See these two examples -
He also will react to more generic questions in standard AI style -
However, you can teach Cait Sith and he will remember what you have said over chat sessions (so long as you save his brain after every chat). For example, I have taught him that "Materia is made of condensed mako," "The Masamune is Sephiroth's Sword," and "Nanaki is Red XIII." As someone who's messed with several AI chat bots, I have to say that Cait Sith is good for odd, but still enjoyable conversation.
Going on to a different project...
I've taken to cross-stitching in my free time. However, instead of the more traditional flowers, kitties, and such, I've been making some unique patterns -
