The Northern Crater Debate
As I promised, I was going to post a debate entry regarding the Northern Crater. To be honest, I always had some doubts regarding the Northern Crater's creation. For a long time, many people thought it was created by the impact of Jenova's arrival. Well I have found a few clues that can possible prove that Jenova wasn't responsible. For one thing, Jenova crashing into the planet couldn't have made such a humongous crater. It's hard to believe her mass being that large to cause such damage. So what could have created the Northern Crater?
Well I have reason to believe it was Meteor. That's right; Meteor has hit the planet before, when the Ancients were around. The major hint that supports this theory is the drawing in the Temple of the Ancients, which clearly shows events of the past. The mural shows a large ball (Meteor) making its way to earth. If one looks closely, you can see somebody is actually using the black materia. But who is it? Can it be an Ancient who went mad? Or maybe it was Jenova. And if you think about it, it all adds up. You are probably wondering why the Ancients didn't summon Holy to help. Holy simply wasn't created back then. When the Ancients became aware that the Black Materia (Meteor) existed, they then created Holy to counter it in the future. If Jenova was responsible for the first Meteor assault, then it does makes sense why Sephiroth would have known what the end result would be. Sephiroth knew full well that Meteor would have destroyed Midgar and leave a crater similair to the Northen Crater.
I really hope this theory sounds pretty realistic; it sure does in my mind. For some fans, it was just hard for them to believe, and I too felt the same way. But when I look at Jenova, I fail to see how such a small organism made something as big as the Northern Crater. It seems to be something Meteor would be capable off.
