Roxas was one of the very few that had taken little or no notice that everyone had seemingly vanished. He lived alone anyway, and when he'd gone to school earlier that morning to find the gates shut, the car park empty and not a fellow student in sight, he'd put it down to the school being shut for the day and nobody had notified him about it beforehand.

He'd gone to Kairi's house to ask her about the school, but the door was locked and nobody answered. He also went to Rikku's house, which likewise seemed to be empty. In fact, the streets seemed to be empty too, but there was surely an explanation for that. Still, it was deathly silent... until he heard a familiar voice break that silence.

"Kairi...?" He mumbled to himself, and although he couldn't see her, she had to be on a nearby street. Breaking into a run and almost losing his balance as he skidded around the street corner, he saw the familiar pink attire and red hair. "Hey!" He called, coming to a standstill beside her. She seemed fine, but extremely panicked, and a worried frown crossed his features. "What's up...? You look freaked out."

As Kairi stood there, watching time go by, she felt like it was over. Till, she heard a voice that really, there was such a slim chance in hearing it was like a miracle. In slight disbelief, she took a few seconds to turn around to face him; and when she did, she just avoided hugging him.

"Roxas..." she said slowy, some of the impressing worry leaving her face. Shocked, panicked, but with a little less worry that at least Roxas was okay. Without even thinking, she found herself crying. "Oh gosh.. I was so worried..."

Startled at her sudden and seemingly random outburst of tears, Roxas asked quickly, "U-uh, worried about what? Me? I'm fine," he rubbed the back of his head in embarassment, by now completely confused.

Surprised that he seemed completely uninformed at the complete lack of people in the city, she wiped away a few of her tears. "The city.. everyone's gone..." she gulped, resisting the urge to cry straight off without an explanation. "..I thought.. y-you'd gone too..."

Roxas stared for her at a moment uncomprehendingly, then the complete weirdness of what she said dawned on him. "What?!" he exclaimed, "Are you serious? Everyone's just... vanished?"

She nodded at him, flinching slightly from the tone in his voice. "Of course I'm serious," she said, her face reducing momentarily from panic to defiant. Afterall, why would she lie over something like this? Of course, it could have just been her... but she was doubtful. "... have you seen anyone today? If you haven't, then it must be.. that.. there's only us.."

"Okay, okay, I believe you," Roxas replied hastily, if only to stop her from looking at him like that. "Nope, I haven't. School was closed, so I went to your house to see if you knew anything about it, but you must've been out because nobody answered. So then I went to Rikku's house, and got no reply either... I haven't seen anyone on the streets except you."

Relieved that he believed her, her face toned down a notch to its previous look. "As soon as I thought something was wrong.. I went looking for you," she said. I guess we must have missed each other.. So, school was empty, and the entire city was devoid of life. "What... are we going to do?" she asked him, wringing her hands behind her back, the fear hitting once again that something major was up.

Roxas folded his arms and frowned thoughtfully at the floor. There could be several possible explanations, none of which would help Kairi's worrying, so he decided to keep his mouth shut about it. "Let's just calm down and see if we can find anyone else around here. Freaking out about it isn't gonna do much good."

Calm down. she thought hopelessly to herself. That was much easier said than done. As long as she reminded herself not everyone was gone, the calmer she became. But whenever she thought about it, it came toppling back on her, like a shadow, a shadow that always pursued her. She decided the best thing would be to follow Roxas' advice to a degree. ".. I don't think there's anyone left, though.." she breathed. "... what could have done this..." she sighed.

In this situation Roxas would have normally been the negative one, but for Kairi's sake he was trying to remain optimistic. "I really doubt we could be the only two left. The odds of that happening are small... if we find some other people, they might know what happened," he suggested, clearly preferring to actually do something about their problem than discuss it.

"But.. we could be," she said. She didn't really like being so pessimistic, but she couldn't see any way past this hurdle that life had thrown at them. And finding people who knew, if there were any, was unlikely, too. ".. I seriously doubt it could have been heartless..." she said, looking at the floor. After a while, she shook her head, absently pressing her hand to her face to keep the bandage secure. Oh.. that's right.. she thought. "How's.. your arm?"

"Heartless..." Roxas hadn't even considered that possibility. He'd gone into a habit of trying to think of his odd dreams as little as possible in an attempt to shut them off, but now that she mentioned Heartless, it could be an explanation. "For all we know it could've been Heartless... they can steal hearts and the bodies just vanish, right?"

When she mentioned his arm, he raised it for her to see. He'd removed the bandages a while ago, but there was still a clear cut beginning to heal. "It's healing. What about your cheek?"

"Hmm.." she said, slightly thoughtful. In truth, she knew generally that heartless existed and everything, but really had no experiance of what happened when they stole a heart. What DID happen to the body? ".. I don't know. I doubt they could have gone to such a scale.." she added. How they could do it in one night was nigh impossible.

She inspected his arm, noticing it was starting to heal. Relieved, she turned to answering his question. "Well it.. it's okay. It was deeper than we though.. though mom told me to wear a bandage.. just to let it heal," she finished. well, also because she doesn't want anyone to know her little girl got in a skirmish with a knife...

"There could've been thousands of them, or just a few really powerful ones that needed lots of hearts," Roxas shrugged. "So many Heartless could wipe out the city..." Noticing he too was turning negative, he added, "Doesn't mean everyone's gone though, cause we're still here, aren't we?"

When Kairi spoke of her mother, that made Roxas think of something. And although he thought he knew the answer already, he wanted to ask. "Your parents... they're gone too?"

She had concidered that there could have been many heartless flocking the city; but someone would have noticed, wouldn't they? ".. if so, why did they leave some people behind..." she said slowly. "... I guess. Though, they must have taken the government if they did.. they're definately gone." Afterall, if they were around, there would have been some announcement of some sort.

At his question, the panic that had resided within her came flooding back, and she tensed up, finding a fragment of strength to stop herself from crying again. ".. Y-yes.." she looked at the floor. "Both of them..."
