May of 2006. So, three years ago.

However, there may yet be hope. I was fussing around with it and since it wouldn't turn on anyway, I popped the battery off the back (something I was always too afraid to do) and um, blew some dust out. Then popped the battery back and and lo and behold, it turned on. I'm gonna be really embarassed if I take it to the Apple place tomorrow just to find the issue would be a non-issue if I had just cleaned out the inside once and a while.

Of course, this time I was prepared and ran around the house collecting flash drives to load up with stuff that either can't be replaced or stuff that it would be really hard to replace (the CD drive hasn't been working for months). But I'm typing this comment on my fully charged comp at the moment. We shall see tomorrow.

Oh good! I was about to ask what exactly was wrong. I've seen at least one case where cleaning out dust made powerup issues go away. There might also be dust inside the box, around the power button - maybe they can open it up and clean it.

And yes, do back up your stuff (often). I have a triple-redundancy system of paranoia at home. Disk space is cheap; data is priceless :-)
