Chapter One

Dec 26, 2004 21:27

The snow had already fallen. A blistering cold wind was blowing. Jacob was on his way to see his girlfriend Sarah for New Year's Eve. It wasn't anything special, just spending a little time with his sweetheart before he would head back home and celebrate the New Year with his much beloved family. He had it all planned out. Take his bike down to the lake where he would meet his girlfriend and the friends she was sleeping over with for a few hours, then head home to watch the ball drop with his family. Jacob was a 16 year old high school student with much ambition but no work ethic. He had experienced many hardships and it has scarred him for life. He had never loved. He didn't think he would love for anytime soon. What Jacob didn't know was that this evening, at his tender age of 16, would change his life for the next 10 years. If he knew what would happen, even the slightest idea, he may have not gone that night. He may have opted to stay home and excused his absent on the freezing weather. Unfortunately for him his feelings that were developing would not allow him to.

As Jacob pulled his bike from his shed the wind was biting him like a vicious wolf. The wind whipped around him and unwound his scarf from his neck. He quickly wound it back around his neck and put his gloves on. Jacob biked as fast as he could to the place where Sarah was staying. On his way he kept thinking on what he was hoping to accomplish that night. He was hoping for a kiss, depending on the scenario. This was Jacob's first real relationship and his inexperience made him nauseous. His stomach would flip upside down while holding her hand and his blood swiftly rushed through his body. He never felt this way before. It was neither a good nor bad feeling for young Jacob, just an odd feeling. His first date with his much beloved Sarah was a music concert, where he fought an inner battle with himself on whether he should wrap his arm around her. Sarah blew his mind away, which is why he was heading to see her.

While pulling into the driveway of Sarah's friend's house the wind blew his bike into a patch of black ice and he whipped out into a snow bank. "Great, just fucking great" he thought. As he brushed the snow off he heard snickering and giggling from the bushes to his left. Looking over he saw his girlfriend and 5 of her sassy friends. As quickly as he was upset he was happy again. Standing there was Jillian, Shannon, Kerry, Lauren, Amanda and his lady friend Sarah. They walked him to Shannon's house where she got him a hot cup of chocolate. These girls were wired up from all the candy and cookies that they have been munching on all night. So to the much delight of Jacob they were outside playing in the snow. Jacob followed because of one thing, one special person, one reason, Sarah. Well actually he had to because he would have just felt weird to go to see Sarah and stay inside while she was outside. This is where his life began to change, where he started to become a man, where his feelings would rule his decisions. This was the start.
