Covering spoilers...
Last night, I was bored, and had a whim to quickly draw and ink a cover for a Spoiler miniseries or something. I amuse myself in strange ways.
I kinda wanted to do an homage cover, so I chose this cover of Robin to model it after
My wiki is so handy...
I love this cover for it's melodramatic caption, and Steph's expression there. It's totally "WTF, Tim, are you off your meds?"
Here's my version, which as usual makes it abundantly clear that though I love to draw, I'm not any good at it. Clearly my caption is poking fun at the other one. Steph kind of looks like she wants to eat someone's brain, but I'm going to say that's on purpose. Also, it totally looks like Tim's trying to cop a feel, but it would look the same if I had Cass doing it (I hemmed and hawed which position either Cass or Tim should be on, but decided Steph's expression would translate too well to Cass's mask for me to pass up)
I tried to do an homage to this cover as well...
But the perspective was too hard, and I ended up keeping the position because it looked so different from the cover, and remaking it into the cover of the hypothetical #1. I still have a few corrections to do on the inking, so it's not up yet.
All the looking at covers has inspired me to post my top ten favorite Spoiler covers. Because I have a wiki and I feel like it!
These are in no particular order, and Robin #113 above is included. Because I love Pete Woods and Steph looks truly badass. Poor Eddie. The beating she's giving him is putting out sonic waves! Ouch.
I love the dynamic composition of this cover, especially how Steph's cloak is flapping and how she's swinging that grappling hook around. And Steph and Cass together makes any cover awesome.
Okay, Robin looks like he's on steroids, but I love those two so much. Go, asskicking lovebirds! Beat giant man to a pulp!
She looks so happy and bouncy and Robinish! Aw, Steph!
Steph and Cass! And not drawn with double Ds and impossible porportions! And their costumes look so neat! The caption amuses me with it's stupidity. I especially love Steph's boots.
I love the Bat family's obsession with plushies. Did Steph purchase hers or did Tim give it to her? "Happy Valentines Steph, here's a doll of me!" "...thanks?" Maybe she made it for him (Stephanie can sew very well, she made her own Spoiler costume and backpack holsters for Tim once. She also made her first Robin costume, but for some reason it looked bad. I blame bad writing.) Anyway, she's tearing it to pieces in rage all dramatically on top of a gargoyle in the rain, and that is sheer hilarity. "Take that, Tim! This is like a voodoo doll!" And Pete Woods. He draws my favorite Steph.
Another hilarious cover. I love the puppy dog eyes those two are making at each other. While sharing a soda! It is so adorable. And they completely don't notice the fight around them, which is so funny.
Don't they always? I just love Pete Wood's art. Look how normal Steph's body looks! And how pretty Timmy looks! Also, Poor Steph is so freaked out as she tries to keep Tim from floating away. Hang on to each other guys! Don't let to zombies get you!
God, James Jean does pretty covers. I love the composition of this one. Steph and Cass look pretty and I love the shadows and the Penguin all skulky with his umbrella. And Steph is swinging the Penguin's monocle around with a devious smile on her face! That's so badass.
Because it's Rafeal Albequerque. And Tim and Steph together again! And Steph is back! And that is enough.
