[The Master is looking completely serious for once, his face lit only by the screen of his network device.]

Right. City residents? Don't go outside. Trust me. Unless you have some new, interesting statues in your flat, in which case, keep an eye on them. Literally. Don't stop looking at them, not for a moment. The Doctor's outlined it all quite Read more... )

He made it through the hallway, not coming across any other angels, trying to look both ways at once, everything lit by an orange-yellow glow. Down a flight of stairs and out into the night, the Master slunk. He hated slinking. It didn't suit him. At least he could look vaguely elegant, if anyone saw him, dressed, as he was, completely in black. Like an assassin, albeit one currently illuminating himself with a torch. He turned it off. There was enough light from the stars for him to see where he was going, although, of course, no moon. There wouldn't be, would there. Too easy.
He'd chosen his place of residence carefully, far enough away from the Doctor as to be difficult to monitor and on the opposite side of the City from "handsome Jack" and his little team. It was making everything much more difficult for him now.
At least he hadn't come across any husks of lifeforms. It was enough to make him feel a bit relieved, that he may have been wrong with his earlier assessment of what would happen if one was caught by a Weeping Angel.
The main issue, the Master realised, was that he, as an extremely-long-lived Time Lord, would act essentially like a magnet, pulling them towards him. He mightn't be saving Rose but instead, putting her into more danger. Well, at least it LOOKED as if he were trying. All he had to do was survive until he made it to Rose's flat and--
Five.
All at once.
Directly in front of him.
He swore and shot at them, whirling quickly around to shoot the one behind him and then thought better of it and ducked. There. Two out of commission. Four still going. The one upside to this is that he was making them so ravenous that they'd gone a bit reckless in their hunger. They wouldn't be able to come at him properly in this alleyway without trapping each other. Only he still did have to get by them. He shot at them some more before they could advance any closer and kicked his way in through the back door of a shop, ran through it, startling some people on his way and ran out the entrance. Only two blocks more to Rose.

Rose threw the chair at the statue which ended up doing absolutely nothing other than just breaking the chair in several pieces. Another mess to clean up if she even made it out of this. What had the Doctor said…Something about being teleported out, right? Yes. But was that even possible? Her gaze stayed intently focused on the statue as it remained still in its place, fangs still showing and claws still poised to strike. Just one though. Lucky…If only she had a mirror.

Where the hell was he anyway? The Doctor. Harry. Anyone. They couldn’t have gotten caught could they? Her feet found movement as she attempted to slid away towards the front door as the statue followed. Her hand on the door knob and she slipped out into the hall only just as she turned she screamed out the only logical thing her mind could think of, ‘Doctor’ at the sight of three statues two doors down. Alerted at their new prey they turned towards her and advanced. This was just not her day.

Bursting through into the foyer of Rose's building, the Master spun all about himself, checking for Weeping Angels, then sidled as quickly as he could toward Rose's flat, screwdriver functioning as a torch once again.
Then rather close to him, he heard the scream. "Doctor!"
Rose.
Looking around himself again, he began to run, now, thumb ready on the trigger of his laser screwdriver.
Coming around the corner at a breakneck speed, he nearly barrelled directly into a line of statues. Looking through them, he saw Rose, looking a little bit like a deer caught in headlights. He made eye contact for a moment, and then fired upon all three of the Weeping Angels.
"It came at you?" he asked, shooting them again, and then twice more for good measure. He pushed one over to walk through the group toward Rose. "I imagine that would be the only reason you'd come out into the hall." He reached her door, wrenched it open to see a snarling Angel, shot it twice and then slammed the door on it. "Are you all right?"

At Harry’s voice, Rose’s head whipped in his direction and instantly she was relived. “Sort of,” she answered with fear still lingering in her eyes. She just wanted to get away from these things as fast as possible and maybe find the Doctor. She could only imagine what kind of mess he was getting into wherever he was.

She cautiously made her way towards him the sound of the door slamming ringing in her ears and gripped his arm signaling that she was more than all right at the moment. “Yeah. Thank you.” she said giving him an appreciative smile. “Saved me again.” she murmured but didn’t let her guard down tearing her gaze away from him.

“You haven’t seen him have you?”

"You're welcome," said the Master, looking down at where she held his arm, smiling briefly at her and then looking back at the frozen line of Angels again.

"Seen him? The Doctor?" He looked fed up for a moment. "No. I have no idea where he is." He sighed. "We'd better get out of here. I don't know how long this--" he waved about his laser screwdriver "--will hold them. Both of our flats are compromised at the moment. Do you know of anywhere we could shelter this out? Or I suppose we could try and push the Angel in your flat out into the hallway."

Hearing that he hadn't seen him caused her to worry even more with a frown. She could only hope that he was staying safe. "Right," She kept her gaze on one of the Weeping Angels. Her hand down to curl her fingers around his own a bit tightly.

They had to get out of here. But where else could they go? "The chippy shop?" she suggested not really sure if it would be safe but she had to hope. "I think it might be safe there." I hope.

He squeezed her hand back comfortingly.
"The chippy?" asked the Master, then, sounding bemused. "The windows are a little big, aren't they?" He smirked. Oh well. The point was the getting there, not necessarily the arrival. He glanced over again to see Rose looking a little fretful.
"I'm sure he'll be all right," he said, not needing to expand upon who he was. "He's a big boy. He's dealt with the Angels before, just like I have."

"Just a bit," she confirmed finding comfort in his gesture nodding at his question. Her train of thought was that maybe they could board them up with the tables and chairs. There was plenty of them to go around. Suddenly once again, the Doctor didn't matter.

"Of course he has. Who needs him anyway." Her gaze was solely focused on Harry.

"Certainly not us!" said the Master cheerfully. "All right, we need to get out of here, back to back. If any of them come any closer, tell me and I'll be ready to shoot them." He waggled his laser screwdriver, grinning, and then freeing his hand and pulling Rose with him against the wall, lined up against her back. "Only one unprotected flank. Keep your eyes open."

"Yup! Not us!" she said with a bit of glee in her voice before keeping her eyes back on their surroundings. They still weren't clear of this yet. Her back was against the wall and her heart raced a little faster trying to keep both eyes opened as best as she could. One eye closed and then the other. She yelped and tensed seeing one of the statues slide closer towards her.

"Harry!"

The Master turned at her exclamation, saw the moved angel, and swore in Gallifreyan.
"This should WORK," he said crossly, shooting at it again, watching the cracks form. "Momentarily, yes, but all the same." He saw a shadow flicker and turned to face another one which he shot point-blank.
"We need to get out of here FAST," he said, hooking his arm through Rose's and all but dragging her around the corner with him, underneath the outstretched arms of the closest angel.

She didn't understand what he first said but was relieved when he shot at it and it got results. "Good enough for me." she said wanting nothing more than to just get out of that building and somewhere safe. She followed his lead, sticking very close to him as they made their way along. This was so much like...

Pulling Rose along, all of the available hiding spots in the City flitted through the Master's brain as he tried to think of anywhere to go. Nowhere was really safe, especially not with them out in the open now like this. The City had too many endless buildings that were bigger on the inside, too many places for the Weeping Angels to hide.
If he could perfect his laser screwdriver's Angel function, perhaps it would be safe to return to one of their flats. Unless they'd have an ambush waiting for him when he returned.
And aside from that, he still needed somewhere to work on it and he didn't trust a human as his lookout.
"All right, the chippy for now," he said out loud, as they reached the door of Rose's building. It was close enough to get to for the time being.
