Children of Earth: Day One

What's this? I never post here. Well, I'm finally watching Torchwood series three, and I have Thoughts.

I like the buildup of tension- that's something Torchwood is often very good at, and I'm glad it's being showcased. In general, the plot seems very tight, and the storytelling is good. I'll see if that falls apart later in the series, but right now this is miles above most of Torchwood.
Every Jack/Ianto interaction makes me want to gouge my eyes out. This only grows worse as the story progresses. Ianto is clingy and excited about couplehood! Jack doesn't give a fuck. Who wants to be a fucking couple? AAAAGH. Their relationship is increasingly one-note, and this makes me bored. I realize they're setting up tension to be resolved, but all the Jack-assery on display is tiring and Ianto is too passive.
Gwen is surprisingly cool. Her lines are still often bad, but the character's working.
I like the doctor guy, and the fact that he goes back to the hospital instead of following the team around. Got further, and he rocketed to the status of favorite character, by the same path as Owen and John. Shooting Jack- not just for betrayed team members anymore.
Families! I love Ianto's sister. Her children are obviously blank, but whatever. Actually, this whole bit reminds me of one of my aunts and her kids. Videogames, tea, and family tension. Oh, jeez, just got a little further and EVEN THE HUSBAND IS THE SAME. When did RTD begin spying on my aunt's family? Can we get him to stop?
Jack's daughter is also cool. Her rage against Jack's continued assery is v. justified, and while I was feeling sympathetic for Jack during the whole YOU CAN NEVER BE KNOWN TO YOUR GRANDSON thing, he lost me at 'can has child to experiment?'
Ianto's "I'm not bi, or gay. Jack is the ONLY ONE. No other man could have turned me' reaction makes me rage. I realize it's just more clingyness, but it has elements of the common bi-blindness that I didn't expect to see in Torchwood. I mean, this is the show where at least four of the five main characters have had relations(hips) with both sexes.
ANYWAY; today's moral- never give out your password, even for a secretary to complete a tedious task when you are very busy! They will abuse the power, and it will lead to grief.
Honestly, though, I feel very bad for the bureaucrats here. They're obviously doing something they think is absolutely necessary, and they have no support from the elected government, who just doesn't want to know.
We have reached 66% for favorite character's dying in Torchwood. And both of them doctors. Hm. Live, John, live!

Next time! More guns, and bureaucrats trying to cope. It is possible that I am watching this wrong.

tl;dr: Plot is good, I still don't like Jack and Ianto, and I'm probably rooting for the wrong people. Again.
