exactly as platonic as they are now.'>
It isn't common knowledge, although none of their friends at school would have been surprised back in the day, that Sam and Blaine haven't always been exactly as platonic as they are now.

Sure, there were rumors, at college, about them. As a frat brother once said, "Dude... What dude tells another dude that he loves him, like, twice a day if he ain't doing him?" (Yes, they decided to attend universities in California. Blaine wanted to be nearer Cooper as Cooper went about the stressful process of opening his own acting school.) They've often been mistaken as a couple, and it took Blaine months after he and Sam started rooming together to convince Cooper to stop verbally attacking anyone he or Sam dated. ("Coop! Nobody's wrecking anyone else's home! I told you... Sam and I are only friends!") And it took even longer for them to work out a system of choosing dates that would weed out any man or woman too insecure to handle their somewhat unorthodox relationship.

But the fact that Blaine knows what Sam tastes like? That they know the most comfortable position in which to spoon one another... That Sam's one and only experience making out with another boy was and is (and will always be) with Blaine... They keep that tidbit quiet. They don't think anyone would understand. They're sure that, to other people, it would sound like a lie to say that they hadn't intended to end up almost having sex when they first started their movie marathon cuddles. Which slowly progressed into rainy-day naptime cuddles... and which had to stop after a tearful but satisfying heart to heart.

Sam's certain no one would believe him if he had to explain that, no, he's not homosexual or bisexual... He's heterosexual with latent Blaine-sexual leanings. It isn't something the Human Rights Foundation is going to preach open-mindedness about anytime soon, and Blaine isn't sure anyone would buy it even if they did. He and Sam are so comfortable with one another... There's no lingering desire to crawl into one another's laps, there's no wistful curiosity about what might have been; there's no awkwardness in discussing one another's sex lives (in detail) or jealousy in meeting one another's significant others...

His friendship with Sam is unique, Blaine knows. (Sam calls it a miracle.) So they hide the full truth about just how close they are to one another... Not out of shame, but because they realize that what they have is one-of-a-kind. It seems silly to them to fight to make people understand something that, as far as Blaine or Sam are concerned, just is. No explanations necessary. Something that the world maybe hasn't seen before, and maybe never will again.

They just tell people that they haven't dated and that they don't want to, and if occasionally they exchange some meaningful looks over the table during a double date... ('Dude, this guy's got bigger lips than I do... And I know that's not as hot as you thought it would be.' 'Shut up, Sam. I know that's raspberry lip balm you gave her.') Well. All bros have their inside jokes and their secret languages.
