3 Sentence Fics

1. White Collar, El, She goes to the hospital thinking it's only kidney stones... and finds out that she's pregnant."

She can't believe it at first; this kind of thing isn't supposed to happen to someone like her, someone careful and ordered and precise.

"It's a miracle, El, that's all that matters," Peter beams because they always thought she couldn't have children.

El looks down at her son and he looks up at her with Neal's eyes, and she tries not to fret.

2. White Collar, Neal/Peter, Million Dollar Smile

He's heard the expression a thousand times, and you'd think it would make him think of Caffrey.

But it doesn't.

For all the thefts, the forgeries, the scams and the long cons, when Peter thinks of Neal, he doesn't think about money; when Neal finally takes him for all he's got, Peter knows that it won't be money or jewels that Neal will have stolen.

3. White Collar, Neal, "Your voice was all I heard... that I get what I deserve."

Peter doesn’t catch him a third time. His little foray into trusting a criminal didn’t rob him of anything, he’s still as cunning as he ever was; the treasure simply provides Neal with an unfair advantage.

And Peter may never know it, but that doesn’t actually work out in Neal’s favor; guilt and dissatisfaction with a carefree, purpose-free existence gnaw at Neal for the rest of his days.

4. Supernatural, Dean/Cas, 'One day I'll be conquered by a wily voice and eyes.'

He figured that someday some chick'd get him - he's even laughed about it to Sam, that karma's a bitch and all his years of sweet-talking waitresses and one-night stands have to have earned him one hell of a heartbreak in his future.

But Dean always figured it'd be some wide-eyed, pretty little thing - with pert boobs and a sweet smile - to make him all heart-sick and doe-eyed, so torn up he can't properly function.

All Dean got right was the wide-eyed and pretty part; Dean fell for a socially awkward angel in a dude's body and the fucker went and ripped Dean's heart out before getting himself killed.

5. Supernatural, Cas/Crowley, One of these things is a lie...

1. The angel is never lovelier than when he's caught in the throes of wrath (or some other fiery emotion.)

2. Crowley didn't want to turn on Castiel for Raph's sake, even after the bugger shut him out.

3. Crowley has never - never - been jealous of that bloody moron in his fucking gas guzzler, especially not over their mutual feathered friend.

6. Supernatural, Crowley/Sam, Outside of deals Crowley doesn't really like kissing."

Human saliva isn't exactly a delicacy, and if you've kissed one slathering idiot in need of something precious, you've kissed about a million over the course of several centuries...

But there's something about the way this one kisses, all teeth and fire in his eyes, that insatiable hunger...

Mmm, yes, Crowley may not like kissing, generally, but for Sam he can make the occasional exception.

7. Supernatural, Dean/Castiel, 'Your prayers won't call him back to your bed.'

Dean never prayed much before Cas (which Dean used to think had something to do with the fact that his prayers were never answered, but - knowing what he knows now about God - is probably bullshit) but it became a habit while he had an angel in his pocket.

Dean only forgets that Cas is gone once - people don't generally get to drink that much even once and survive - but that's enough to put him oof of prayer completely.

Dean, too drunk to know better, prays and some bitter soul in Heaven hears (apparently Cas did quite the number up there when he thought he was God); Dean never prays again.

8. Chuck, hunter!Chuck/vamp!Bryce, You are the dark, and I am the vampire.

He waits in the shadows of the courtyard, late at night, and lingers outside of Bryce's dorm room like a creepy stalker. He sharpens stakes til he could build a small log cabin out of them and even buys some dead man's blood from a shady character he's done dealings with before. But the closest Chuck actually comes to killing Bryce is when he finds Bryce flushing the pricey dead man's blood down his toilet then walking away with a put-upon sounding, "That wasn't very nice, Chuck" and a peck on Chuck's lips. AO3

9. Chuck, Chuck/Sarah UST, "Your voice was all I heard... that I get what I deserve."

Sarah stays with Shaw for the rest of her career; Chuck tracks her movements through chatter until she and Shaw finally drop off the map, presumably to live the normal life that - ironically - Chuck couldn’t give her.

Chuck goes to Rome… and then Paris… and then to Africa, for a time (but nobody can know about that) before being stationed again in the States.

He wonders sometimes, what Sarah would think of him if she could see him; Chuck wonders what he should think of himself (when he thinks of it at all) and the closest thing he has to an answer is the memory of Sarah’s sad voice as she said, ‘You’d be the perfect spy… That’s what you want, Chuck, isn’t it?’ AO3

10. Chuck, Chuck/Bryce, Incongruity

There's something about the sight of Chuck with a gun in his hand...

Back at Stanford, it made Bryce smile - their toy gun shootouts in the library - for the incongruity, if nothing else; Chuck, the nicest guy Bryce's ever known, couldn't hurt a fly, and it didn't strike Bryce as contrary that he would protect Chuck from recruitment into the CIA and then put a gun in Chuck's hand because the bullets weren't real anyway.

Now that Bryce's actually seen Chuck kill a man, the image of Chuck's unshaking hand, his quick trigger-finger, makes something turn, heavy and cutting, in Bryce's stomach; Bryce feels like the most incongruous of things himself, the handler who broke his greatest asset by molding it. AO3

11. Chuck, Mary, You would have done just as we did... We know very well how you would have behaved; you are our children.

Not a day went by, as Chuck and Ellie grew up without their mother, that Mary didn't think of her babies and regret that she couldn't see them - which isn't to say that she regretted leaving them, which is something that she doesn't think Ellie could understand.

Ellie would have to be shown; she'd have to be put in the position of choosing - as Mary had been - between keeping her family and keeping her family safe.

Mary knows that Chuck, at least, has learned the hard lesson that she and Stephen learned oh so long ago; she knows that Sarah knows it too, from the way Sarah's eyes track her husband as Chuck walks through a room, and Mary prays - when she prays for anything - that, for this generation of Bartowski spouses, that knowledge remains completely theoretical.AO3

12. Chuck, Chuck/Casey, "You're a mess. A big, naked, bleeding mess."

And he is, but he’s alive, and that’s really the important thing.

“Stop yapping and start moving, Bartowski,” Casey grunts, but he isn’t protesting the way Chuck’s latched onto him, even in his nakedness, so he must be as glad to be back as Chuck is to have him back.

They need to move, Chuck knows that, but he takes a moment first to just hold on - to just hold on and breathe again. AO3

13. Chuck/White Collar, Chuck/Bryce + Chuck/Neal, You have made me a savage master/because I know how to serve..."

He knows that he's not really over Bryce, will never be over Bryce - he knows that, and he knows that it isn't fair to Neal, that none of this is fair.

It isn't fair to hurt Neal to help him, to push him away to keep him safe, to pull him back in because Chuck just can't help himself; it isn't fair that this is the only way Chuck knows how to love.

Neal is Bryce's identical twin, but Chuck resembles Bryce in the ways that make a difference. AO3

14. Breakout Kings, Julianne/Lloyd, A New Day

Today she failed to look at him, again, in anything but friendship and professional admiration.

Today, she missed yet another volley of several dozen social cues he's given her that he's interested.

But tomorrow is a new day and hope springs eternal.

15. Criminal Minds, Reid, He fears developing his mother's schizophrenia.

He fears his headaches, his genetics, the statistical probability that, if he is affected by his mother's condition, it will begin to show itself any day now, and the others try to comfort him, but they don't understand.

His mother used to say that she lived and breathed books, ancient tales of wyrd and wergild and that was her job, so it makes sense that her descent into madness began with an obsession with those things, the delusion that she was her work, was a charcter in her stories.

Spencer reads madmen and psychopaths for a living, he learns their minds, their desires, like their sicknesses are braille raised on paper stuck to his hands, and when Spencer fears- when Spencer fears, he doesn't fear for himself. AO3
