The Economist isn't half as good as it's fanclub claims it is, but this article is fantastic, and it describes the issues we have here with 2/3 majority, budget lockouts, gerrymandering, democracy by ballot propostion and such. Additionally, it is in plain english.

The Associated Press just called the special election race in the Illinois' 14th congressional district for Bill Foster (D) over Jim Oberweis (R) to fill the remainder of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's (R) term. It's a dramatic pick up for Democrats.
