Hey Guys,
I need your help....No,not just me, but everyone who has dealt with the unjust crap our governor has been ramming down our collective throats in the form of Driver responsibility fee's needs your help. Anybody who actually reads my journal knows how much I hate michigans driver responsibility fee laws but Im not gonna rant about it right now. The important thing is that someone with more political intelligence than myself has decided to do something about it. A petition has been made to have the laws revoked. All Im asking is that if you agree that the laws are unjust then click the link below and sign the petition. And If you want to be REALLY nice to me copy this into a post on your journal so everyone on your friends list can get a crack at it.
http://www.petitiononline.com/mdrl06/petition.html IF you are unsure or dont know much about these laws (Lucky you) check out these little fun facts.
The fines imposed are NOT disputable and must be PAID IN FULL upon receipt of a "driver responsibility fee" notice. This punishment, and the inflexibility thereof, cause undue financial hardship. (Unless the fine is $500 dollars
or more then "payment arrangements" can be made)
*the key word there is "non-disputable" guys. Last time I checked, by law you have the right to dispute any charges brought against you be they fiscal or otherwise*
This law subjects us to being twice penalized, financially, for traffic/ driver-related violations. One penalty is assigned at the receipt of a municipal traffic ticket; the other, by the Treasury of the State of Michigan.
* this is the governors loophole way of getting around the double jeopardy laws which are supposed to protect us from being charged twice for the same infraction. Since one fine is to your local government and the other is to the state which is how they get away with it (why do think your writing checks to the treasury department and not just the local courthouse, which the state gets a cut of by the way). But some of the fines are applied twice (once a year over two years) which to me is a blatent violation.
Should you be unable to remit the fines imposed, you are subject to suspension of driving privileges, leading to further financial difficulty and loss.
*well of course didnt you see that coming? You cant dispute the fine but if you dont pay the state is going to do the same thing it does with all driving related things, they're gonna suspend your license because they know that in todays world for MOST people its almost impossible to live without a drivers license. I know for a fact its a bitch and Im just a single guy. Imagine what that would do to someone with a family or a single parent. So they suspend your license because then they know they've got you by the demonhole. Its called legalized extortion boys and girls, and I for one am sick of it.
