goblets of fire

Saw the "new" Harry Potter movie last night with a bunch of friends. As far as I've been hearing, it was released in May or something back home, but it was just released last night here so we all went to see it. I thought it was quite entertaining and overall a pretty good fantasy film. I think they're doing a really good job with the movies actually, being able to simultaneously keep a sense of continuity through all of them, but make them all stand-alone movies that can be watched without having seen any of the others. It's also nice to see they're not targetting the movies just at kids. And actually, I'm not really sure about the series being such a kids movie anymore. Just looked it up and saw it had a PG-13 rating in the States - makes sense. Now I've only managed to read the first book, but I wonder if the books have the same sort of maturing progression, or if the images are tamed town so younger kids can read it. Then again, I read LotR when I was pretty young, so I guess it's irrelevant either way. Looking forward to the next one...

Another point is apparently, subtitles are the kind of thing where if they're there and I can read them, I will. The movie was subtitled in Japanese and I occasionally caught myself paying attention to the subtitles, when I certainly didn't need to read them at all. Although there were a couple times when I couldn't really catch the English because it was mumbled or someone was talking to me so I guess the subtitles were useful. I find I'm doing the same thing watching a subtitled Japanese movie, even if I understand the Japanese dialog perfectly. I need to train myself to ignore them and watch the pretty pictures instead.

Speaking of the next one, another one I want to see is Narnia, which I just found out comes out in a couple weeks or something back home. If I'm lucky I can catch it over the holidays and I won't have to wait until March to see it when it comes out over here.

Basically just slept all day today trying to get rid of a cold one or more of my students handed me last week. Bonsai class was cancelled this morning, but I think it was probably good timing so I could get some extra sleep. Lately I'm not really one to let illnesses and injuries get in the way of me doing anything - but sometimes this is to a fault. Went to the gym today for a couple hours, grabbed medicine on the way home, and crashed until about 8. Now I'm waiting to see if my friends are up to anything, and maybe I'll go out for a couple hours before crashing again.

illnesses, harry potter, movies, bonsai, narnia
