Right-click My Computer and choose manage.
Click the plus sign next to Event Viewer.
Click System so it's highlighted.
Scroll through the log and see if you have any error events and what they are. Sometimes the messages are kind of inscrutable, but any errors that involve the hard drive are a Bad Thing.

That's true, but if the HDD is going bad, then sooner or later (and probably sooner) you'll see some errors start popping up in there. If both OSs are on the same physical drive, there'll most likely be problems on both of them.
You can also do a scan disk on the other partition from the XP install, assuming it will recognize it. Should be able to do that from the tools menu in my computer. You might have to go to drive management and add the other partition as a drive letter if it's not there already though. Then you should be able to run scandisk on it.

Nope, I won't see anything pop up on the XP drive because its a separate physical drive from the drive that has Win7 and Vista on it. It recognizing the other drive fine and is running fine, I can access all the data fine. I'm starting to think its some odd quirk of SATA drives I'm not aware of or something with a setting in the BIOS or the order they have to be in, something like that

I probalby would have just said, well, that's Windows for you.
You can look at the system even log, too, and see if you're getting any kind of hardware errors showing in the system log. That might help.
