matsuda ryuhei!!!

i think he chooses rather unique shows to act in, but many of them have this very subtle quality - that matches his very subtle acting as well. the mohican comes home is yet another quiet piece (don't be misled by matsuda screaming into the mic as a metal band singer - that lasts for about just a minute)... and so subtle are some of its hints and the expected but quietly pleasant message it brings across. i particularly like how his mohawk and its gradual state of disarray seems to represent his reparation with his family. i also loved how he picking up and playing of the kid's trumpet (and his father's focus on trumpet kid) subtly hinted at how he held that same position in the past. it only goes to show that his father treasured him (and thus whoever in that same position), while he also in some way treasured his time in this stilted school band before moving on to seek his own path.

then there are some really heartwarming moments. i'm not particularly fond of family dramas, but this seems to balance comedy, dark humour and a quiet warmth all very well. i also like that at the end he kept his mohawk (and thus individuality) - instead of the director/scriptwriter having chosen a more sappy version that he grows his hair out properly. it was also very sweet that in the end, he realises his own weight as a budding father of his own.

another great show by matsuda ryuhei! <3
