Because of the insane urges to eat at odd hours of the day (I'm up eating now as I type), we are keeping the fridge stocked with snack-size fruit pies. So far I've chomped my way through several apples, and a few apricot ones. I noticed something deeply disturbing today. The box of apricot pies has a little "vegetarian" icon on the box. The box of apple pies, however, have a little icon reading "low in fat".
So... how much fat am I consuming in an apricot pie, really? If my apple pies are net vegetarian, what the hell have I been eating? It's not like I actually am vegetarian so accidentally consuming animal products isn't going to disturb me... but what the hell is in my apple pies to stop them earning a "vegetarian" label?
