Augustans and Romantics

I had a surprisingly comfortable time doing this. Considering the fact that I barely touched my texts for over a month with respect to this module, I'm really surprised I was able to answer the questions without much problems.

There were 3 sections. In section A, I did a context question on Mary Wollstonecraft's essay where she was criticizing the Romantic Idealism and their preoccupation with nature saying that such themes are done to death and highly ironic considering the fact that most of the poets are bred in an urban setting. She also was skeptical of the so-called "spontaneous overflow of feelings" saying that poetry are subjected to rules, and such rules could only "dampen the fires of imagination". So it went well, because I brought up Edmund Burke and the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads, talking about the transitional aspect of society at that point in time as well as the need to find a foothold in the individual's imagination that serves as a collective anchor to humanity - a unifying force in a world that is extremely volatile and subject to much change.

Section B, I did an author study about the "nature and treatment" of politics. I chose Jonathan Swift, saying that politics is seen as an exclusive club that consist of people who gain favours from the monarchy and they exploit their people in a manner that Swift compares to cannibalism. This is portrayed in a "factual" manner through the use of travelogue and the essay format which was popular back then. And to build on this treatment of politics, I brought in Swift's personal grievances for it because despite it's failings, he was a Tory and in support of the monarchy although they seem to be unappreciative of his attempts at addressing the wrongs due to his unwholesome manner of handling a situation (paralleled by the scene in Gulliver's Travels where he put out the fires in the palace with his urine).

Section C, I did a comparative study about the "nature and treatment" of nostalgia. I could talk about it right now, but I realise I can't be arsed to do it. Suffice to say that I'm pretty alright with my interpretation and I hope that I will get good grades for this rather enjoyable paper.

In other news, I just want to confess that I did no studying the night before the exams. I did meet online with Feebs with the intention of talking about Blake, but we ended up talking about The Sims instead where we traded screencaps and the like. I'm proud to say that my male Sim, Angel Summers, is a proud father/mother of an alien baby. Yep, you heard it right. He was artificially inseminated by a rogue alien, and has given birth to a healthy, albeit green, baby alien. I named the alien Jade, after his skin tone.

One last paper to go! I really can't wait for that one now, considering how well the other three went. :D

ETA: Alright, this is interesting. 18 separate hits on this journal (which is bugged in such a way that friends of this journal would not activate a hit) from Singapore.

Stalkers. ;)
