HOW ABOUT NO

Just repeating what many of you on my flist have already posted: I don't like LJ's new buttons that let you x-post entries and comments to facebook and twitter. It's fine if you want to use them on your own or public entries, but please don't use them with f-locked posts, mine or anyone else's. There's a reason people lock their posts, and many ( Read more... )

Luckily there are ways out already - which they should've provided themselves before implementing this crap.

Any chance you could enlighten a techno-dummy like me on how to do it? :-D Like Nerwende, I don't want people who comment on my blog to be able to cross-post their comments to other networking sites.

*copy/pastes* *g*

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in that line.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

once you have it pasted in there, save changes.

You are an angel! Thank you thank you thank you! A few other of my LJ friends are complaining about this. Since Nerwende's LJ is locked, would you mind terribly if I copy and paste this for others?

Oh, I left this entry unlocked (most of my "grumbling about lj" posts are unlocked), so feel free to link to it too if you want to. :)

Yeah, it's definitely something that requires fresh brains to deal with!

Why can't they just make new features opt-in...? *grumble*

I haven't really looked into this, but don't those methods just hide the buttons - if someone has opted to use their own style sheet *everywhere* they would still see them?

I haven't played with it, other than I logged out, went to 'leave a comment' for one of my own blog's posts, and the repost buttons were gone. That's enough for me. :-)

Yes, but I think for now it's the best solution we have until LJ gives us the opt out option. *g* I'm not sure how many people use their own style, I surely don't. *g*
