I just finished watching Trigun. Good series, it had a lot of good themes, and I think I was able to identify with some of the characters during some parts-- some more than others. Matter of fact, found it on eBay for cheap-- about $30 after shipping. Yeah, jumped on that. Just waiting for the confirmation on my PayPal account to come through to finalize the deal. I find that watching things like Trigun, Bleach and some other things really makes me want to write. I just wish it was something that came easier to me. We went to see Chronicles of Narnia today with the family, and during a large part of the movie, I was amazed at the quality of writing that C.S. Lewis put forward. I have read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but it's been a long time, and I didn't ever read any of the other books in the series. Just seeing the quality of the story, the underlying symbolism, themes-- everything-- makes me wish I could do that. But wishing doesn't do much, does it? If you have a dream, you have to work to make sure it gets finished/progresses.
I wanna write a little about my thoughts on the series, but I don't want to ruin it for others who might possibly be watching it later (Ki and Fi, and Cieloan, we'll have to have a Trigun-watching session after I get the DVDs in. Assuming you haven't already seen it.) :D So, I'll refrain for now. Speaking of wanting to talk about things, but not ruin them for others, have you had a chance to start reading the Death Gate books yet Fi? I still have to work on some of my reading for the break.
I'm going to try and put some more time in tomorrow to the short story I'm working on. I put it on my laptop after I got it back, it's just over 3 pages, if I remember right. I'd also like to work some on my program, since today was the first actual necessary use of it that I had. I was trying to burn the Trigun episodes onto a DVD (which didn't work by the way) and didn't have enough space on the drive to put the cache in, so I used the program to quickly locate the largest file on the drive and deleted it (it turned out to be a 2.0 GB temporary file). Made me happy that I didn't just go to all that work coding it for nothing. However, using it in a real problem solution made some necessary changes very apparent. Well, not necessary, but very nice changes apparent. I'm going to have to add some sort of mechanism to allow me to see what the full path of a given file is. But that shouldn't be too difficult.
I think the way I've been approaching my attempts at writing recently has been all wrong. It's been kind of a "Do it when the idea strikes you" type of attitude, and it hasn't been working very well. I think I need to dedicate more time to it outright, sit down and decide how I want it to go, think about what are possible routes for it to take, and decide/work out which I like best, then do it. I still kind of like just sitting down and writing it as it comes to me-- it seems to flow better that way-- but, unfortunately, it seems that if I continue trying to do that all the time I won't get very far with the dream.
I guess there are a few things I will need to be changing for this next semester.
Here's some other off-topic stuff I just wanted to put in to give you a news updatage:
First off, I found a ZIP disk that had a whole bunch of my pre-mission files on it (I might have mentioned that in a previous entry), but aside from the things I was expecting to find on it, I found a bunch of my old pictures I rendered in Bryce3D before my mission. I thought I'd lost all of them for good. It made me happy to find them again. Also, I installed Bryce 5 again on my computer, so when I have some time I'll be able to work on new ones. Maybe my sense of creativity will get a little stronger, né? ;)
Also I got a Wacom Graphire tablet. Going to be using it primarily for taking notes in class, the tablet isn't too big. I'm just hoping it doesn't prove to be too much of a hassle, because it would be really nice to have all my notes on my computer.
*Think think* I had several other things I wanted to mention, but I can't remember what they are... I need to start keeping my personal journal again. Maybe I'll have to break it out one of these days, but I think the current one I have is close to two thirds full. It's a good place for me to write down my musings and random thoughts; that way they don't get lost.
Someone in Quark posted a link for a Neon Genesis Evangelion boxed set for under $50 on Amazon.com. I think the total price was $42. I considered getting that too, but I think I'm not going to. It was an engaging series with some interesting ideas, but I'm not sure that I really want to own it.
Unfortunately I can't remember the other things I wanted to post. Oh well.
I'm planning on getting back probably on Wednesday the 4th. When's everyone else planning on heading back?
