Yup, that's what I've been up to lately.
It's been 6 weeks and 1 day since Tristan was born. My incision is healing well, but it's still sore. In the meantime, I've been increasing my activities so I can get back to my "normal" life.
Aaron and I have gotten to know Tristan better. Meaning: when he needs to eat, when he needs to get changed, how long he sleeps. We've fallen into a routine with him: Tristan takes about 45 minutes to eat, then we let him play for another 45 minutes or so (any longer, and he gets cranky), and then we get him to take at least a 1 hour nap (sometimes we have to try really hard). We do this during the day and hopefully at night he'll sleep for 5 or 6 hours, which means I get to sleep for 4 to 5 hours straight.
You know, those 4 to 5 hours of straight sleep really makes a difference, as opposed to 2 to 3 hour "naps" that I've been getting at night. I actually have a complete REM cycle :P
I've been getting better at not getting up in the middle of the night for every little noise he makes. I used to, and I would just watch him to see if he needed anything, which he usually doesn't. This caused me to have even less sleep. Now, I still wake up when he makes a noise, but I'm learning to just go back to sleep until he actually asks for something (ie, cries).
Anyway, now that I'm better healed and we've developed a kind of routine with Tristan, it makes planning/doing things a little easier, like grocery shopping or cooking a meal, which are two of my favorite activities. During the first few weeks after Tristan was born, we ate a lot of ready-made foods, like frozen pizza, frozen ravioli, and basically just anything easy to make (which means not super healthy). The past couple of days I've been able to make a decent meal :) This might not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but to me it's progress towards being fully recovered.
Well, it's about 5:30am and Tristan needs me. Until next time!
