Someone invented nails.

That is really weird if you think about it. Someone, like, came up with schematics for nails. Possibly there was even a trial and error period (the first attempt had two blunt ends, and carpenters didn't really get why blacksmiths were so stoked about making pegs out of metal instead of wood ( Read more... )

Lobsters have always puzzled me. Who would see a scuttling, hard-shelled, insect-like thing like that and think "MM DINNER YES PLEASE"? And yet! They are delicious. I mean, you'd have to be REALLY HUNGRY, right? Basically the world is full of mysteries, is all I'm saying.

lobsters, actually, started out as food of really poor people. Like, it absolutely was "That sure looks disgusting. But its a live, and I'm starving, so I'd better try and eat it."

It was only later that wealthier people experimented with them and found out they were pretty yummy that lobsters got pricey and high end. Same with oysters, actually.
