...because I can't yet form words to express my feelings about last night's TVD.

Oh, I have heard about the Carrie Diaries. I... am not sure how that's going to work either. Because I was under the impression that Carrie didn't grow up with the other SATC girls, so this would be Carrie and other characters. Which... isn't bad necessarily, but, I don't know, prequels are always iffy. Because you already know how it has to end, so you can't really have any soulmates or anything in a prequel who aren't the guy she ends up with. I might check it out, but I'm skeptical. Plus, the attraction of the original was that it was very adult entertainment. With swearing and drinking and situations that I would never experience. I'm not sure how a teen show is going to attract me in the same way. (says the woman loving Gossip Girl, a show about (former) teens having hot sex.)

I know Schwartz still carries an EP credit on GG too, doesn't he? So maybe he'll be willing to help direct the writing for the last bit. The show has been such a signature show for the CW that I have to imagine they WANT to keep it going, or give it a proper ending, if at all possible. They want it to be remembered fondly, I'd imagine.

He does still have an EP credit on GG, and, from a couple of comments that Safran's made in interviews, it sounds like Schwartz still gets final approval on overall arcs, etc., so...

I may be reading too much into it, but it was in one of those awful interviews where Safran was saying he didn't have an endgame, and he said something like: but that doesn't mean that Josh and Stephanie don't, and the final decision's up to them. Which made me think longingly of that chess comment. It also makes me wonder if there's been more tension between the two Joshes than we've realised. Like maybe Schwartz is the one who kicked him out, rather than the network. Or maybe it's all perfectly amicable and I'm projecting.

Either way, he's gone, he's gone! Great day in the morning! Bring me the finest bagels and muffins in the land, etc., etc.

On a not-at-all-related topic, I'll just say that as cute as I did find the Harry Winston pics of Ed and Leighton (and we should all be lucky enough to look that happy to see our workmates), I wish that the entirety of Tumblr didn't feel the need to re-blog it ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

Oh, and I don't know if I'll be watching GG tonight, because it depends on whether I manage to get to sleep. So, if there's squeeing to be done, I may be a bit late to the party.

I feel like there almost HAS to be some tension somewhere in that staff. Because you can't have two different visions of this show without it, I think. And I'm torn on that comment by Safran that he has no endgame in mind. I feel like, if that is true, it explains why his stories are so sucky. For all the reasons that essay on Tumblr stated. And if it isn't true, then he DOES have his own endgame in mind, but it doesn't line up with what the show has been going for the past few years, and he's just trying to be politically savvy about it and keep people watching as long as possible. Which... I can't blame him for that, but if your vision is so radically different from what the show has been, you're taking an awful chance. Because the viewers who are still into the show are mostly going to be those who LIKE that old vision. IDK.

Plus, the comments about tension in the writers' room make me think his stories were starting to grate on people. It's like: Okay, we've been playing around with different things and that's fine, but now you're starting to go really out there and we need to remember the focus of the show again.

But yeah, who knows? He's gone and hopefully we can salvage some semblance of the old show again. Hopefully CW will give it a chance.

Haaa! Oh god, those HW pics. I thought it was so neat (and telling) that Ed and Leighton were the ones HW wanted. It speaks of their legendary couple status in fictional form. But seriously, we've seen the six photos now. Stop drawing little hearts around them and then reblogging them all again eight thousand times.

I'm always at work when GG is on, and I keep meaning to find a Twitter person who live blogs or something, so I can feel connected when it's on. I kind of spend that hour at work wondering: WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, OMG!!

Heh, but I think we're both used to the fact now that any GG posts are basically going to be just me and you. So if takes you awhile, no worries.

Yeah. I was reading an interview where Safran was talking about the writers' room being "heated" during discussions of the storylines for this season, but how they all come together to agree in the end. I just don't see how that's possible. I mean, if the writers care enough about either Chuck/Blair or Dan/Blair for things to get heated, I don't see how that's ever going to resolve into a real consensus. The best you can hope for is the "losing" side to give in with relatively good grace.

It's impossible to write consistently and convincingly if you're not sold on the story yourself, which would pretty much explain the clusterfuck that is the writing this season. It would even explain the seemingly endless list of scenes ripped off from earlier episodes-okay, we have a similar situation, what do we have that we can re-use? because goddammit, I can't think of something convincing that's new, etc.

Phoning it in, basically.
