Michael Moore versus CNN

Jul 14, 2007 07:31

As some of you know, I'm a huge Michael Moore fan. I like him not because I agree with his politics (because I largely don't), but because I like his filmic style, his sense of humor, his compassion, and the fact that he gets things done. His films and TV shows are packed full of stories of people who were mistreated by coporations (some left to ( Read more... )

I don't know about Blue Curse, but Kaiser Permanente is not for profit. But just because an institution is not for profit doesn't mean that there isn't money to be made...

If an insurance company is not for profit, then what is the motivation behind screwing over the common man by denying medical care?

well, as someone tangentaly in the industry of insurance, "screwing" someone out of coverage is how you stay solvent. If you granted every request for coverage, you would quickly exceed your funding. For Workers' Comp, which is most of what we do, spurious claims are common, and I imagine medical care is similar. Those claims must be denied to ensure there are enough funds to insure everyone else. ;)

You guys should take a look at some of the comments people make about Moore in one of the other videos:

I'm not a large fan of Moore myself, but he does make an important point in his movie that many people in this country are far too ready to ignore.

HFS....that there is an example of civil debate. Thanks for the link. I love how some people accuse Moore of "hating America" because he fights for change. I guess everybody who has fought for change hates America, and that America is no longer America, because it has been changed signficantly by anti-American traitors since 1776. I mean that whole civil war thing was about change...the North wanted to change America, and so they didn't do the right thing, which was to secede from the union. The Confederate states were the only ones who loved America, because they seceded to prevent it from changing. Oh you Bill O'Rilley Patriots! You are the true heroes!

come now, "low hanging fruit" ring any bells? Just because BoR and his minions bash Moore, does not make him right.

Socialized medicine MAY cost us more than our current system, and currently plenty of people in Canada or the UK will agree with that. Then again, they tend to be upper middle class, the wealthy go to private doctors to start with.

Hey, I didn't say anybody was right ;-) I was merely using sarchism to argue that Moore is not "un-American"....or more precisely, that Moore does not "hate America."

I was delighted that Michael Moore was putting some onus on CNN to take responsibility for bad journalism (and props to Wolf Blitzer for not freaking out). However, I get really annoyed when Moore goes into his shouting routine. That kind of yelling is impossible for me to listen to because it leaves no room for discussion and it makes the yeller look like an ass.

I realize that passion and politics can't always be separated--and it's good that people hold beliefs very strongly. But I think that in order to have a real productive dialogue, that kind of grandstanding and yelling has to be put aside so that reason, logic, and facts can emerge. I understand that Moore felt attacked, but he can't have been surprised, as he got the same treatment three years ago (and I'm guessing from more than one interviewer). So, I would have appreciated--and been more receptive to--a Moore who let his facts speak for themselves (he does a great job using his Web site for this) rather than climbing up on the cross and complaining about the nails.

I do like how moore's page has a presidential election predictor. I guess we know who will win the primaries

(for those of you too lazy (or warry) to click the link, Mitt Romney and Hilary Clinton have way more money contributed to them by the medical industry than anyone else. When is Moore going to do a film about the abuses of the teachers' union? :)
