Ladies, I am your Monday.
So last week, in our Creative Writing class, we read the short stories from Civilwarland in Bad Decline by George Saunders and discussed them. I don't know if you guys have read anything by him (I hadn't even heard of him until two weeks ago when I was told to buy the book), but I rather liked the stories. He has a weird way of making up really bizarre and absurd situations and having characters in these weird situations who react as if everything is totally logical and normal. In particular, I liked Offloading for Mrs. Schwartz. Most of his main characters seemed to be in the same passive vein and as a whole, the stories were satirical and pretty bleak. But two of the stories stand out, including Offloading for Mrs. Schwartz, because the stories' final points focus on the good that individuals can do even while society is being stupid. I would go talk about this story in more detail, but it's really better to read it than to have it told.
Oh, Hilary, you were in my dream last night. We were in some sort of building with a lot of other people I know and you had to protect it from dementors overnight because you're an RA. So you and an RA from my building took shifts and when you took your shift I spooned with him. It was odd, to say the least.
Comment Questions:
1. What's the best thing you've read as of late?
2. What shows are you watching this season?
3. How was your day yesterday? (whenever yesterday is for you)
4. Do you like pumpkin flavored things?
