Hello girls, it's Tuesday! I am reporting to you today from the basement of Casa de Aleon where Gaby & I are spending the week. So far, like Gaby said, we've watched a lot of movies & tv (including, but not limited to AVPM & Mean Girls), gone swimming, and spent a lot of time on our laptops. We are exciting people. I'm also having fun hanging out with Toni's sister Gina, who some of you might know on tumblr as thisdayisgood, who is awesome. On Thursday I also get to meet Korianne, which I am really excited about. And before that I get to meet Stef! So many great people!
As you may know already, I'm working on a new novel that involves a lot of research on hermaphrodites and intersexual individuals. Today intersexual athlete Caster Semenya was finally cleared to race in the women's division in world sports after an eleven month trial and series of tests following the Olympics. The fact that she had to go through such a long and demeaning process to determine her gender really irks me, but more than that, it has been speculated that she may have undergone some sort of surgery to make her appear more female in order to be able to race. If this news is true, I am going to be royally pissed off. No one should have to go through a dangerous surgery to prove who they are and even intersexual individuals such as Semenya should be able to be a part of whichever gender they identify with, especially in Semenya's case where she is intersexual and not hermaphroditic. The more I learn about it, the more disappointed I am in the world for putting people through what Semenya and many others have gone through. I think that's part of the reason why I'm writing this novel, to spit in the face of the gender dichotomy and show the world that intersexual, transexual, bisexual, what have you are all people, just like you or I and should be treated with the same respect as anyone and everyone else.
On a similar subject, I am very proud of everyone who attended the Pride parades in Chicago, New York, London, & other major cities across the globe! I am especially happy to hear about the straight Christian men who attended the Chicago festival with signs apologizing for their previous behavior, as well as for the way Christians in general have treated them. It makes me proud to be a Christian, to be a Chicagoan, and to be me. Thank you all.
Comment Questions!
1. What's a "bizarre" subject you love to research?
2. How do you feel about Semenya's case?
3. Any inappropriate crushes?
4. Any inappropriate questions I should be asking? (Toni said I needed to include this)
