Well, she did not arrive by stork.
I gave birth - by surprise - at 24 weeks to Zoey Nicole on Aug. 29, who weighed 1.5 lb. and is 12" long (normal for her gestational age, but a preemie).
She was due Dec. 18 but wouldn't wait. Apparently, she was so curious about all of the goodies we got at my last day of Outpatient work / surprise baby shower.
They flew in a team from Magee in Pgh to Latrobe Area Hospital and let her grasp my finger before whisking her away by helicopter..."See ya, Mommy, my plane awaits. I'll have my people call your people."
Mikey is still in shock from seeing the entire birthing process. He held my hand the whole way through, with no resulting fractures. No time for pain killers so apparently I screamed loud enough to wake the entire unit. And I thought: Women do this more than once? Voluntarily? Wow.
Mike and I will be visiting our daughter daily at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Magee. She is doing remarkably well considering her preemie state. Please send good vibes/prayers/reflective art her way. She has a long way to go before we can bring her home.
In the hospital, I kept feeling my stomach and expecting her kicks.
So strange to have her in the world already.
We visit her each day, taking mini videos and pics.
She is my joy!
