Another long update...

I've been so busy lately-- I can't wait for this upcoming weekend, when Rick and I will finally have some time together without 5,000 other people being there, too! Sunday, Rick's mom had a housewarming party and invited every single person she and Piet (her "significant other") have ever known, from second cousins twice removed to elementary ( Read more... )

Reading your updates of how you are getting along here is just wonderful. Makes me a bit sad that I never got to write much when I had just moved to the States. It must be great to have this filed for later hehehe ( ... )

do you not know how to swim or were you just kidding?

Well, I can *sort* of swim. Like, I can "dog paddle" and keep my head above water, and if I fell into water I wouldn't drown. But I don't know any of the proper swimming strokes, and I can't swim underwater without holding my nose. I had some swimming lessons when I was little, but since I didn't live anywhere near any lakes or rivers and since no one I knew had a swimming pool, I never really learned it... I've got to get Rick to teach me. :)

I wish I knew how to make strawberry jamIt's soooo easy! Honest! This was my first time to try it, and it came out wonderfully. The recipe called for strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. I dumped these in a pot, stirred it up a bit, and once it was thick enough (which you test by splodging a bit onto a cold plate and poking it with your finger-- if it just oozes around, it's not done, but if it wrinkles and holds its shape, it's finished), then you just pour it into a nice, clean jar. Haha it's fun to read about your experiences in Holland. It reminds me of the things that are typically Dutch- which normally I wouldn't think about because they're 'normal'.
