Adventures with narcotics

I can be such a moron sometimes.

I went to the doctor yesterday since this damn cough just keeps dragging on and on without any sign of getting better on its own. She wrote me a prescription for some cough syrup with codeine in it, which I dutifully took before bedtime. I crawled into bed about half an hour later, still hacking and coughing away. "This stuff isn't working," I said to myself. "Better take some more." So I slurped down another two dose's worth (for good measure) and headed back to bed.

Let's just say, those were some of the most messed-up dreams I've had in a while! I woke up early this morning feeling foggy, dizzy, nauseated, and really sleepy. Somehow I managed to get dressed and stumbled to class, where I spent most of an hour staring glassy-eyed at the wall, occasionally scribbling down a few notes. It was such a strange feeling, like I was out of sync with my own body, floating along above and behind myself, watching my actions like some impartial observer. Luckily, by the end of that first class I'd started to feel a lot better, though I'm still really really really sleepy.

So, the lesson learned here: When the bottle says "Take two teaspoons before bedtime", it means two teaspoons. Not six.
