In the entire history of US presidential elections:
5 were elections where the heights of at least one candidate is unknown
3 where their heights were the same
22 the shorter person won
29 the taller person won
Seems slightly biased? We've only just begun, folks...
Television was invented in 1927. Before that the only way to get info on a candidate was from a picture in a newspaper and (gasp!) reading about what their policy goals were. After television, well, you could just watch TV and easily see who was taller.
Before Television:

12 the taller person won
After Television:
1 their heights were the same
6 the shorter person won
17 the taller person won
