BaCC: My Ruleset

Apr 10, 2011 20:57

I love the Build a City Challenge (BaCC) and have tried it a couple of times, but the playrules just don't suit the way I play very well.

That's why I've been trying to come up with my own set of rules. I didn't start completely from scratch and there's still quite a lot from the original challenge in there. It's also not playtested yet, and ( Read more... )

I've never tried the BaCC, but was literally JUST about to start it before I came across this! I must say I'm completely intrigued. :3 I really like how there is more of a storyline in this version. And more importantly, being an airhead and all, I like how everything is thoroughly laid out-I'm understanding things way better this way. ^^; If you don't mind, I could be one of the people who play tests it for you. :]

Oh excellent :) You're more than welcome to try it out with these rules, I just can't guarantee they're balanced or anything at the moment. They are quite a bit more simplified - I can't keep track of all the stuff required in the original myself ^^

Do let me know if you have a go at it :)

Creating neighborhood as I type-excited! :3 I'm planning on posting my progress on here rather than Blogger since I have more of my TS2 playing friends on LJ, and so I can link everyone to your rules easily. :D

I'll tell you if I run into any problems, though things look like they should work out very nicely. ^-^ Oh and added this entry to my memories in case future changes are made. :]

Ooh excellent ^^ Looking forward to seeing it all in action :) My own attempt will have to wait a week or two... Itching to get started on it though!

I love these kinds of rules.

I adored playing the apocalypse challenge, before Pets came out, when the rules were still playable (I found that with additional careers etc. it became mostly unplayable).

I have personal rules in my game, mostly re. careers and university (it's silly that you need to study to be an artist or to scam some people with the paranormal, but you don't if you want to be a doctor?).

I'll have to try a BACC one of these days, even tho I'm highly unfond of playing businesses...

I know what you mean, I really don't enjoy playing businesses all that much myself. That's why there's only two business requirements in the rules: one to open the Business career and one to open the Culinary career. Outside of those, I don't think you have to 'play' businesses. You can plonk down a community lot that's owned by a Sim, but never bother to go in there after the initial placement :)

Your rules looked so interesting, that I am trying them out in my game for fun. It took me a couple tries to get the neighborhood working (I did not have enough empty templates) but now I have my five little households and for the first time in my simming life, I built their homes from scratch ( ... )

Ahh I completely forgot to put that in the rules, good thing you remind me! I was actually intending to prevent promotions without having fulfilled the perks with Cyjon's Job Stopinator (Find it here: http://drupal.cyjon.net/node/327 )
Just whack the Stopinator in your Founder's inventory and take it out when the perks have been unlocked :)

I'm so glad you're having fun with the rules though ^^

I'm currently printing these rules, and am using the time to consider ways to allow fire alarms. I guess it could be tied into the Law Enforcement career and a fire department could be additionally built for another $30,000 although a more morbid thought was that the town might cry out for one when a resident dies in a fire.

Hmmm that could work indeed :) Not that I want my Simmies to die in a fire, but it'd stress the importance of fire prevention I guess... Linking it to Law Enforcement would make sense as well, maybe if a Sim in that career (not the first one) has extinguished 3 fires himself or something and learns fire prevention, they can start up a fire station?

Ooh, I forgot about learning fire prevention. Maybe the second person to become a Captain Hero could learn it and open a fire station. I must admit I've never had much luck getting my Sims to put out fires and live to tell the tale, let alone three! :(

They get better at managing it when you let them learn fire prevention - they actually put out the fires instead of running around like headless chickens :)
All depends on the difficulty level you want to play with, I guess. I'm thinking that fire prevention is rather important, and should therefore be unlocked fairly early on, but if you prefer some level of danger for a bit longer, the second Cpt Hero thing works, too :) I think I'll go with the fire prevention + extinguish 3 fires + build firestation one. It'd require electricity to be unlocked as well, obviously.
