I've got a handful of queries in my inbox that talk about the author of the book in question in third person. What's the deal? Did the person writing the query not actually write the book? Do they think I'll be more likely to ask to see it if it sounds like someone else is tooting their horn? Whatever the case, their energies would be better spent reading our actual submissions guidelines. Then they'd know to query the agency and not me directly. Or not, given that at least one of them has written a thriller and we don't represent thrillers.
Submissions guidelines exist for a reason. They are your friend. Really. I'm not kidding. Because these folks above? Automatic rejections.
