Took my camera out this weekend... its going to be an ongoing learning experience but I seem to have the basic functionality down, and to my surprise found myself leaning more on the "manual" setting (where you set your own ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc.) over any presets or automatic settings.

I learned a few other things after the fact with respect to how I might want to take photos if I want to edit them in photoshop later... namely taking a few shots at different "exposures" (basically) and then that gives me more options on what I can do with them later. Biggest "mistake" I made on some of them was having them too dark (which looked good) but any attempt at brightening them afterwards created blobs of pixels and other "artifacts" from editing. It worked better to darken and increase contrast on the brighter pics I took. What I think worked best, though, was taking elements of the darker and lighter and combining them into a single pic where you get the best detail of them all. I'll post that one (I didn't realize until today though that the way I combined them did leave a bit of a doubling or shadow on the wood of the pier).

I was also pretty pleased with how much detail I was able to get w/ the moon. I'll post both the unedited and the one where I played w/ the brightness and contrast to bring out the detail better.

Last pic is unedited, I just like the way the colors fades along the waves.

The sky was too cloudy and the moon was too bright Saturday night for me to try my attachment that matches the rotation of the earth. I think at the end of the month I'll get some full moon pics, but it might be until the middle of next month before I can really try to get anything worth a damn as far as the stars go since the New Moon doesn't hit until April 12th.
