For 6 years I have grown as a programmer, I never forsook the tallants that lead to to the decision to be come a game designer and as I move forward programming bigger, better devices and drawing ever closer to that ultimate goal of having that first game to show off my skills as a story writer, and artist grow as well. There are times when I sit down and think, why? Is it worth all this trouble. 6 years have gone by and all I have is a shell. But Then Again I can remember reading the C++ Primer I had bought from the store my second semester of college and thinking how much I had to go, will I make it, will it be worth it, and from the basic black console I created the window, which gave way to OpenGL. I am now finished with the basics of OpenGL and work to build engines from what I have learned. From black console to 3D in a span of only a year is incredible. And then when all this fails to get me to see that THIS is what I want, I need but play one song... "Two Small Peices" or also known as "Broken Mirror". The ending theme of Xenogears. The melondy of that song played through out the game, and each time you heard it it was a sign of hope, courage, love, and the future. 80 hours of playing that game, and at the very end, besides beating the game, and saving the world, you got to hear the actual song. It was beautiful.
"Broken mirror, a million shades of light
The old echo fades away
But just you and I
Can find the answer
And then, we can run to the end of the world
We can run to the end of the world"
Hearing this song reminds me of the game, the game that made me want to be a game designer. Aside from this one only one other song has also earned its place beside this one, the Metal Gear Solid 3 theme song. Hideo Kojima is my idol.
