This is from an actual job listing:
"We will take affirmative action not to discriminate in any aspect of employment against any person on account of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, disability, disabled veteran, veteran of the Vietnam era or other eligible veteran, age, marital status, veteran status, or physical or mental handicap unrelated in nature and extent to an individual's ability to perform a job or any other characteristic protected by the employment discrimination laws in any state or political subdivision in which Porter Novelli does business."
Have we as a people become so sensitive to possibly being offensive to someone else that we have to claim our innocence before we make any actual action that could offend? Did we forget that there are difference between people which make us unique? Are we advocating that no one is better or worse than anyone else at any given task? Is there no such thing as talent? Are we striving towards ultimate equality? In ten years are we all going to have the same exact uniform to wear every day to our assigned jobs with other people who bear no significantly identifiable characteristics either?
Fuck that! There are people out there that are better than you and me both, and that's ok. Just because someone is more qualified doesn't mean that the were chosen over you because of a racial issue or a gender role. I do not deny for a second that these things do happen frequently. But the fact is, they happen to ALL OF US every single day. Any asshole can write a disclaimer at the end of a job listing saying that they are an EOE, but when it comes right down to it, they have the ability to throw away any resume they want to. It could be your name, your age, a company you used to work for, ANYTHING.
Guess what folks, there is something you can do about it though. Make your self more desirable. What a fucking concept. Go to school, get a degree or two, clean up your appearance, have a positive attitude, be compassionate to those around you and don't be a crooked son of a bitch. Instead of spending all your time whining about how unfair life is and how short changed you've been try doing something about it.
Oh yeah, one more thing. If you don't like it, too bad. This is life ladies and gentlemen. Get up an walk with the rest of us, or get trampled. Your choice.
